CBS Evening News in Primetime

Attention all stations...on Wednesday January 28, due to the expanded
prime time CBS Evening News from 8-9pm CNYT, stations will be required
to fill 6:30-7pm CNYT locally. This is CBS Aiah Control, Noo Yawk.

This wouldn't really happen, would it? ;D

Couric's primetime newscast will be only thirty minutes in length, airing 8pm-8:30pm.

As for transitioning to primetime on a permanent basis... perhaps. It's quite a risk, though.

I think it would be more likely that CBS would give 6:30 to affiliates and delay Couric by an hour to 7:30

I think PrimeTime in general is starting to shrink; NBC plans to carry Jay Leno's New Talk Show at 9P/10PE starting this summer-which happens to be-Yep, In PrimeTime. I might feel skeptic when CBS plans to do its nightly newscast with Katie in PrimeTime-Right before the late Local News 5x a week, but it's all in planning stages now.

Then we've come full circle. In the early years of television Douglas
Edwards' newscast on CBS aired 7:30-7:45 from 1948 to 1955; John
Cameron Swayze, then Huntley-Brinkley, aired from 7:45-8 from 1949
to 1957 on NBC.

I could see it happening, with both ABC & CBS putting in an hour long nightly newscast to replace one hour of scripted programming at 8pm ET/7pm CT (Mondays through Saturdays) followed by two hours of entertainment. Award shows, sports, or other special live events? Send them to your website, ready to interrupt with breaking news.

NBC's idea to eliminate an hour of scripted programming each weeknight is probably going to be copied. Dick Wolf might be mad now, but only until he figures out he can probably script a little edgier on cable or video-on-demand.

If they go that route, expect NBC to simulcast "Countdown" with MSNBC!

With Jay Leno's nightly primetime show marking
a major change in the makeup of primetime, I
want to bring up an idea that I've been hearing
for over 25 years: a U.S. version of the CBC's
"The National"/"The Journal" hour at 10 PM. I
think ABC would be best equipped to do it: a
combination of "World News" and "Nightline" in
an hour more accessible than 6:30 or 11:35.
Thoughts?

When I first heard Leno would be every night at 10, my first thought was for ABC to counter with some type of information programming. I was thinking more of a 20/20-type program every weeknight, leaving Nightline at 11:35.

If someone wants to do it in primetime, it has to be at 10. CBC tried moving it to 9 and failed miserably, and ended up going back to 10.

Let's not forget Britain. ITV from 1967-99 had "News at Ten" at 10:00 (it returned in 2001-04 and again last year), while the BBC's flagship newscast was at 9:00 (they moved it to 10:00 in 2000).

I miss Dan Rather....
He took the news seriously.

Charles Gibson looks like he's still filling in.
Brian Williams is the only one I like but NBC chops the packages into tiny little bits. I hate that :(

Or take it COMPLETELY OFF MSNBC (Heaven knows MSNBC has enough people to replace Keith on there) & put him on NBC alone.

But then again, such a move would expose MSNBC to FOX Noise on the West Coast as viewers there catch Bill O'Blubberhead's live broadcast @ 8 PM ET/5PM PT, wouldn't it?

Then too....If Al Franken isn't elected as a U.S. Senator, MSNBC could use him as a talk show host in that slot while Keith is on NBC doing Countdown.

Thoughts?

This is exactly why CNN has CNN Newsroom at that hour on the weekends. Between Rick Sanchez (Who's one of the better anchors on there IMO) on the weekends and Andersen Cooper on the weeknights with Andersen Cooper 360, CNN has THEM ALL beat.

Why does CBS think FOX News & MSNBC both don't even try to counter-program the 11 PM ET hour with ANYTHING unless there's a special need (Like Election Night or continued coverage of a major event earlier in the day)? Answer - THEY CANNOT WIN. It's just that simple. Political bias on both networks aside, neither of them are THAT stupid. Even they know when it's time to put the proverbial political towels away for the night.

For ANY of the other networks (Except for CNN Headline News of course) to play catch up would be a tough road to hoe IMO.

Just my opinion....

Cheers :D

Or how about putting him back on SportsCenter where he belongs.
