CBS Firings?

Allaccess is reporting a downsizing at CBS/Boston.

Best wishes to everyone. Nothing worse than spending a day wondering if you're going to get called into the GM's office.

At least three that I know of were called into the office at Oldies 103.3 yesterday and given the news.

Two air personalities and one in sales.

That's all...speak among yourselves about how great the future of this business is....and Merry Christmas!

Well, I guess that's a better courtesy than just getting a phone call or an email telling you not to come in again.

Does anyone know who the two air personalities are that got fired?

An indicator-June Knight appears to have suddenly vanished from the ODS webpage entirely-overnight. She just got back yesterday from being ill for a day. In fact, this morning, the News she used to do, was a feed from "WBZ Newsroom". And nothing happens when you try and click on "Visit Mike Osborne's page". Tom Kent is not on at nights despite what it says-Patrick C is back in his old spot weeknights doing Xmas tunes.

I've been fired 3 times in my career. Twice by telephone. I get that sentiment completely

Considering that you worked for Entercom, I'm 100% not surprised.

It's not just corporate owners that do this. I too have been fired by telephone a couple times in my career. All were from privately owned, non-chain stations.

I'll miss Al Cole on WZLX.

Oh no, not "the Reverend" Al Cole! That sucks. Al was required car listening when I worked an early AM internship in the 90s. Will they just "sweep out" the Overnight ZLX now?

Guess what? The only company with the class to do it face-to-face was Entercom.

FWIW, DHL employees around the country were told by DVD this week...

Yeah, well they still do a lot of stupid bullshit, so I'm still right.

...how can you still be right when your statement was proven wrong?? Anyway, it sucks, what this industry is going through right now...I wish the best to those who lost their jibs today.

Fired by phone? Ouch.
When one Saga cluster laid me off I have to admit they were decent about it...even paid my medical insurance for 60 days. Another cluster did it via email. Guess it depends on who the boss is and his/her regard for you.

A rather ironic quote for someone who has posted over five hundred times on this board!

Patrick Callahan is now on into what is usually Mike Finegan's shift with no mention of filling in for him. He was also on past 10 last night as well with no mention of filling in for him at all. Now, you add this to June Knight being bumped from the website and the fact that the WBZ newsroom did the updates on the news this morning and we may have solved the mystery of the two on air people who CBS let go. If this is true, this is shocking because Mike Finegan has been at 103 even before they became Oldies in 1987. As Oldies 103.3's world turns continues....

These stupid, idiot, moron upper mangers have yet to realize something: THEY ARE THE REASON THAT RADIO IS DYING, AND BY CONTINUING THEIR MORONIC WAY OF MANAGING (IE: CUTTING PAST THE BONE TO THE MARROW), THEY ARE KILLING THE BUSINESS EVEN FASTER!!!!

Also, the business enviroment is cyclical, and I'll bet it's never occurred to these turds that eventually they will NEED THEM BACK-but guess what?- just like me, they will be OUT OF THE BUSINESS, BECAUSE THEY GOT SICK AND TIRED OF BEING TREATED LIKE $**T!

See that GUN in your hand, management turds? See the bleeding hole in your foot?

You have shot yourself in the foot!

Of course, none of you have taken a reduction in salary to keep staff!

It's too bad that what you are doing wasn't legally criminal (as opposed to being morally criminal, which it is)-a few months alone in a cell with 'Bubba' would help your management skills!

Merry Christmas CBS radio people-once again you've gotten one HELL of a Christmas bonus form the YAG (formerly known as diamond tiffany) network!

It's always been that way from the moment he started the Sat night 70s show when it bumped Barry Scott's Sat night show. It's not him. Must be June and Finegan. And Finegan is actually the one who first announced on-air a few weeks ago that Patrick was making his comeback to Oldies 103. June has been around since the Paul Perry morning show days, I think. She has certainly been with Oldies since Dale started mornings. Did Zito really cost SO much that they had to dump a good newsreader and a longtime night guy? Karen couldn't have flown solo? She was doing really well since Lobel left. What a mess. I don't think I'll be going back to WODS after Christmas.

I'm right about Entercom being shady, not about the statement.

I worked for a shitty independent company too, so I see where everybody else is coming from on that one.
