CBS-FM 1980 Countdown

By 1980, we really didn't have a legitimate Top 40 station in the NYC market, after 99X morphed into FM99 in the fall of '79. WNBC was AC and WABC was trying to salvage themselves as an AC after trying to compete with WKTU in the disco realm. While it may not have been a "stellar" year for Top 40, IMHO it still produced many great tunes and guilty pleasures along the way.

"Hungry Heart"-Bruce Springsteen
"Heartbreaker" & "Hit Me With Your Best Shot"-Pat Benatar
"Misunderstanding"-Genesis
"You May Be Right" & "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me"-Billy Joel
"Train In Vain (Stand By Me)"-The Clash
"How Does It Feel To Be Back" & "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"-Hall & Oates
"Hold On, Hold Out" & "On The Boulevard"-Jackson Browne
"Fame"-Irene Cara
"Coming Up" (Live Version)-Paul McCartney
"Real Love"-Doobie Brothers
"I Can't Let Go" & "How Do I Make You"-Linda Ronstadt
"Life During Wartime"-Talking Heads
"Against The Wind"-Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band
"Ah! Leah!"-Donnie Iris
"Tired of Toein' The Line"-Rocky Burnette
"Only A Lonely Heart Sees"-Felix Cavaleiere
"Brass In Pocket"-Pretenders
"Pilot of The Airwaves"-Charlie Dore

These are just off the top of my head. I'm sure if I looked at the weekly charts I'd find many more tunes that I enjoyed listening to back then and would love to hear on the radio today. And let's not forget, 1980 was the year AIR SUPPLY made their chart debut! LOL!
