CBS-FM A to Z #1 Countdown

Another great specialty on CBS-FM this Thanksgiving long weekend. Beginning today (9am et), it's the #1 songs in alphabetical order!

A great weekend on the radio once again!

ABC - 1970
Abracadabra - 1982
Addicted to Love - 1986
Afternoon Delight - 1976
Against All Odds - 1984

I am surprised that Mary did not start this thread first, but then, it is CBS FM, so she is probably so happy that she is on the floor, kicking and screaming and rocking out.

It is on for the whole week, through next weekend.

sorry Silkie, I been busy, I have a Grandson now :) anyway I love it, "Disco Duck" on now

and my favorite Christmas song was on before :) The chipmunks!!!

"Dominique" by Singing Nun at 5:30pm, NYC drive time, rush hour!! GOTTA LOVE IT!

David Eduardo must be loving that. ;D

No need to apologize, I was funnin'. Congratulations. The little one is way more important, I must agree. Make sure he learns the words to The Chipmunks Christmas song. It wasn't an oldie when I was a kid.

Many number one hits were not "burnouts". So we will hear plenty of records not in the usual rotation. According to Joel Whitburn's Top 100 book, Brown Eyed Girl peaked at #10 so CBS-FM will not play it for several days. I think it has replaced Mony Mony by Tommy James and the Shondells as the most burned out oldie IMHO.

Happy Thanksgiving

Actually heard "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" by Milli Vanilli from '89.

They are skipping older #1's from the early 60's though. They played "Go Away Little Girl" by Donny Osmond, but not Steve Lawrence's version, for example.

I can remember doing the mix of the English and Spanish versions of that song... the Spanish one by Queta Garay... for the "7-90 Bilinguals" on XERC when that song was a current. That song was quite pukeable even when new.

I'd rather have the listener voted New York Top 500 ;)

I was wondering why that was why Mary didn't originally start the thread in the first place. ;)

Would have been cool if Rewound Radio did their own Thanksgiving Top 500 - but in fairness, they are putting together the annual "Top 77", which is always good.

the singing nun :) wore out that 45, maybe cause I loved one of my nun's in catholic School, even won a goodguy sweatshirt for her!!! Its not only oldies I like, I enjoy some newer stuff, I love the group TRAIN!!! A to Z countdown just brings back some happy and some sad memories. Happy Thanksgiving to all!!! :)

I'm trying to figure out why certain songs get airplay while others don't. For example:

Venus...Frankie Avalon...#1 in 1959 Not played
Why.....Frankie Avalon...#1 in 1959 played

Venus could be in the burn out category, while Why generally receives less play.

In 2011, I would p;ay NEITHER.

I listened to it all the way through, but I hope CBS-FM goes strong with an #1 A to Z countdown, what about a song that became a #1 hit in New York, "Losing My Religion" by REM. that was from 1991, I hope the station will start playing 90's music along with the rest will be updated in the future. How about "Rock Around the Clock" by Bill Haley & the Comets. That must be a #1 hit in 1955 and it became the theme song to the first two seasons of "Happy Days". That will add to the list.

The 90s were a bad decade for pop music. Not sure I'm ready to hear Mariah Carey or Celine Dion on CBS-FM. The station needs to remain a late 60s-mid 80s focus even in the A to Z countdown.

I have a feeling soon 90's will be oldies and will be played. I still want only 60's to 80's and some 50's played but everyday things change :( we have to go with the Times!!!
