CBS-FM Is Back - In Uganda!

Just one thing to say about Uganda: Very strange and scary place through which to smuggle Bibles. But it can be done.

You are confusing Uganda with other countries (and none nearby) - it's not illegal to bring Bibles or to possess one. In fact, Christianity is practiced freely in the country. The majority of the populace is not Muslim and its not Christian; the plurality practice tribal religions.

As for Idi Amin, he is ancient history. The majority of Ugandans weren't even alive back when he ruled. Their president (perhaps for as long as he cares to be) is named Yoweri Museveni. He can be a bit heavy-handed, but doesn't run the country in a tyrannical way either. Much less oppressive than a Hugo Chavez. I traveled across the country a couple of years ago and had no governmental hassles whatsoever. Just wanted to quell any misconceptions.

As for CBS, it's a programming service that schedules a variety of programming; one Kampala-based signal is in Kiswahili or Buganda (can't tell them apart) while the other is primarily in English, which is the 'official' language. There are repeaters all over the country. They have independent stations as well, a couple sounded similar to our urban/AC format (without Tom Joyner, of course).

English is spoken fluently in many areas of Uganda and Kenya. Many of the street signs are in English; the shops have English signs on them; even the source of the Nile River has English signposts.

Guess you had to be there.
