Explain this to me. I went to the WCBS-FM website. Yes, they were already in JACK mode with logo and all, but there in the corner, there was a logo suggesting I click that to listen to "CBS-FM 101."

So I am listening....and they were still in CBS-FM Oldies mode. What gives?

Now since we have JACK here in LA (KCBS-FM 93.1), it is possible that Mr. Dolenz has done his last show on CBS-FM. Before the JACK switch, OUR CBS-FM (ex-Arrow FM) had a rather high-proced property named Jonothan Brandmier. I understand he's still under contract with Infinity/CBS/Viacom, but he's not on air. JACK/LA, after a month or so is still running jockless. I suspect the NYC version will do the same.

Question, who will fill the oldies void in NYC. 'NEW maybe?

101.1 JACK-FM Liners...

Rather than start a new thread, this subthread could be for liners for the station... I immediately had to share this with those who haven't heard it:

"Howard? It's Jack. I wanted to meet you."

The liner *did* say that. Wonder if it was a reference to Stern? Anyone else hear it?

Anyway, there's a plethora of other localized liners, including "Jampacked with more music than the L.I.E." And of course, there was one liner that alluded to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry... Just heard another one: "We're Jack-FM - or as our bosses like to call it, the 100,000-watt romper room..."

Heard one on Saturday saying, "Hey did anyone see the cover of the Post today? You could have spelled our name right..."

(The NY Post's front page for Saturday).

The best has to be: "We put the "BS" in "WCBS-FM".

I know several listeners that would go one further...

Others can add on with the ones they hear too...
______________

That's the "internet-only" oldies format to placate listeners of terrestrial CBS-FM. Think "K-Rock 2"...

Certainly, not the sister station is going to step in and bring back the oldies format just vanquished on the legendary WCBS-FM. Then again, I don't think even a Clear Channel station would take a stab at it. This is a dark day for the oldies format. Markets No. 1 and 3 have lost it. And I wouldn't be surprised if K-Earth Los Angeles lost it soon, too. And on top of that, I'd keep close watch on all the other Clear Channel oldies properties across the country as a result of today's flips. St. Louis? Watch out.
______________

Am I the only one that likes the Jack format. As the populations ages, what's considered oldies changes. Yesterday's "oldies" of the 50s and 60s are gone, today's "oldies" are the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. I'm finally glad my generation has it's oldies station!

no my friend...you are not the only jack fan, even though i feel like the only jack fan here in the northwest corner of the country. i have loved it since day one.

While it is true that the 'Jack' format is sweeping the industry, history shows that these trendy formats tend to flame out in a hurry. And they flame out even faster when the creativity that spawned them is snuffed out by the research department.

Look for WCBS-FM to continue its slide, much the way WNEW has been sliding for years. It is one thing to tinker, make small adjustments in the format. It is quite another to make wholesale changes and this is one huge wholesale change.

This has to be a joke. If it isn't then oldies in honestly DEAD!

Another way to put it is, Jack will not be around as long as oldies on CBS-FM was around.

Exactly the point I've been trying to make. When the Jack bomb drops on oldies in two of the top three markets, that's not just big, that's huge.
______________

Tehy MIGHT if one opf their sdtations was not doing well. But Clear Channel has WLTW which dominates and has almost broken WABC's 70's record at length at #1 - So it wont be them. Z 100 has high enough 1`2 plus numbers so that will never be touched as long as its doing so well with ratings and billing. WKTU is okay but nothing great BUT established. Plus they may begin doing better if they get credit for WNEW's listeners next door. Many people that take diaries and are listening to WNEW might be putting WKTU down giving them credit. Clear Channel wont give CBS/Infinity a format hole to fill. So KTU is safe as well.

Power 105 almost managed to beat Hot 97 but the dust has settled. While Hot 97 is clearly the winner, Power 105 is not doing all that bad. They are making money and have above average ratings. Plus Power 105 is helping WLTW be Number one. What they do is take about 2 points or so away from Hot 97 bringing Hot 97's ratings low enough that they cant ever be Number One. So Power 105 is there to keep Emmis from dominating totally.

Q 104 is getting okey but nothing great ratings, but their demographics are young enough to sell it well. Plus they achieve high suburban ratings and high ratings in the 25-49 demographics so they are not going anywhere at all either.

So Oldies wont be on a Clear Channel station in New York City.

Not likey just yet. They already have a home for Jack on 93.3. They wont flip KRTH until they can find a hole in LA and there are no holes in that market. But that may change in say 6 months. Anything is possible.

>And on top of that, I'd keep close watch on all the

Clear Channel would more than likely modify the oldies formats to attract even older demographics and then move them off their FM stations onto AM stations. Clear Channel has quite a few AM stations taht play alot of 50's and 60's and little 70's. Many of these were on FM and mor 60's 70's formats.

Its possible that they would move oldies in St Louis to AM.
