CBS-FM PD Brian Thomas To CBS/Tampa

@Mary: Tampa is a market where Clear Channel and Cox are very much on the radar. CBS, not so much, but Brian will likely make a difference in that regard. Best of luck to him.

Folks on the New York Radio Message Board are speculating about his replacement. There were two specific people mentioned who already work for CBS New York.

Rick Gillette is currently programming 92.3 Now, and previous programmed both a Rhythmic CHR and a Classic Hits station (KOOL-FM) in Phoenix. He did really good things for KOOL, revitalizing it much like Thomas did CBS-FM, so he's a definitely a worthy candidate. Plus, it would give him job security if 92.3 flips to WFAN-FM.

On the other hand, Lenny has been with CBS-FM as APD/MD for a while and knows the station, plus he's had PD experience at Sirius/XM and stations like WDHA. So he'd be perfectly qualified as well. But I think if he stayed in the APD/MD position, and Gillette became PD, they'd make a great team.

Of course, they may decide to go outside the box and hire someone from elsewhere, but they do have two perfectly good candidates right here.

My vote is for Lenny!!!

He knows the station, the market and the history and is a great programmer.

Ron Parker would be a good choice for PD - he has the experience from programming KLDE/Houston & KFRC/San Francisco, as well as KKBQ back in the day. And given the direction of the format, having someone who knows 80's CHR behind the Selector wouldn't be a bad idea.

Not sure if he would want to give up being on the air tho...

Lenny would be good, Ron too, :) I know Ron used to be a PD, I did not know him. I would miss him on the air, He got a great voice. :)

Ron Parker would be another logical choice - and who's to say he wouldn't stay on the air if he became PD? At the very least, maybe he could voicetrack the overnights just like Lenny does and Jeff Mazzei used to.

If CBS Radio stays in-market, Lenny Bloch will likely get the position. Recent personnel shifts at WCBS-FM indicate this outcome.

Bob Berry has very recently been recruited to fill-in for Joe Causi overnights. Berry was on the 12AM-6AM Causi show all last week and is doing so this week also. Up until last week, Bloch filled-in for Causi as he has been for nearly three months. It would seem that CBS Radio now has other assignments for Bloch.

voicetrack ugh!!   personalities should talk to the people.

I don't disagree, but CBS-FM has been voicetracking the overnights for nearly five years now, and I don't think that's about to change.

Not necessarily.   Having Lenny voicetrack every night was a stopgap measure so that Joe Causi could alternately fill in for Bob Shannon and Ron Parker.   Bob Berry was able and willing to take some of the load off Lenny, so they gave him the gig for now.    I do think Berry is a great fit for CBS-FM - although just like Causi and others, he sounds best when he's live.
