CBS-FM Processing GREAT!

Props from Buffalo to Mike Erickson! And how about some love for the PD, too. They appear to have an outstanding level of trust and mutual respect. Think about it. How many PDs would "buy in" to handing their station processing over to (what some unknowing people in the business derisively term) "an engineer?"

I say this as a former Classic Hits and News-Talk PD and Production Director who's had the great fortune to work with outstanding engineers who know RF, IT and Audio: Men (it could just as well be "women") I respected and trusted. People you can go to and say "give it a listen and tell me what you think" and they come back and give you a detailed account of everything, from the ripper you're using to transfer audio into the system, to the board, mics, mic processing, the audio chain, STL and the exciter all the way to the transmission line and the six bays at 500 feet. You look at these guys and appreciate their knowledge and expertise.

I've known too many PDs (and have once been one) who like to "fiddle" with the processing every other day of the week. It can get to the point where you become tone deaf and do more harm than good. One of the issues Mike noted was "listening to the station on his commute and making a list of songs that should be replaced." That's dedication. It's also a superb testament to professionalism. Hope the air staff and PD appreciate him. I'm looking forward to hearing the station next trip "down the Thruway."

:) THE PD Brian Thomas is doing a Awesome job!!! He is keeping the music great for young and Older people. Some people still want Doowop but in the countdown they heard that too. :) Keeping the listeners Happy brings up the Ratings, thats why they are #1 Great job WCBSFM!!! More of those wonderful countdowns!!! :)

Mike: I told YOUR boss the same thing the other day when he popped in to the studio. We sound SUPERB. I did say to him "make it louder" as a joke. I remember when he made the old WYNY on 97.1 sound like a CANON being shot inches from your ears (much like PLJ did at one time back in the 70's-80's.)

He ALSO helped us set up the original processing at NJ 101.5 from his association with Walt Sabo. THAT'S where the, "Make it louder" line comes from. He DID. And we WON. BIG.
He laughed when I said it in jest the other day about 20 years later. His answer? We're in GOOD hands! So take THAT as a supreme compliment you audio maniac! Chat soon.

BE BIG!

;D I think I can speak for each and every person here at 923NOW that we love Mike " Let's Head to Empire " Erickson. There is nothing better than going to the "Italian" joint
and then going up to Empire again and again and again...plus he actually cares about this business and he loves radio. Mike and Chris
"WINS ticker Microwave Digital Audiovault pull it out of my hat " Tobin
are outstanding individuals. Also It doesn't hurt that we are all radio geeks and live and breath this business.

It's agreed. Mike knows his processing. He can listen to a station for a few minutes and tell you what processing equipment they're using, without having been there or having talked to any of their staff.

CBS-FM sounds SO good. But I do agree that a kiss of Reverb would be the candle on the cake! The Audio on 92.3 NOW also sounds awesome, and I know Mike had something to do with that as well.

DITTOS!

Is 92.3 Now still processed with an Omnia 6 or also Optimod 8500?

Erwin...Our Vp Dom "Power Pig" Theodore would prefer that we not divulge that information but I know that Mike has a lock on all of the Vorsis/Optimod and Omnia 11 boxes...
Wait does he have one of those?

I apologize that none of our New York board denizens have failed to recognize the one and only Tic Tak of 92.3 Now on the forum... Welcome!

The processing makes the classics sound like currents.

VERY impressive web stream quality also.

For all the dumb-ass engineers who think they know it all and believe that hyper compression/EQ blows off listeners take a listen to CBS-FM. Lots of Compression/Aggressive Limiting Etc and because their engineer is smart he can make it compressed without the artifacts,

Listen and Learn young engineers.

EVERYTHING about CBS-FM is great! 'nuff said!

Does Famous Amos have a Multi Band Processor on his voice?

Oh really - Seems like no one wants to ever hire him long term!
