CBS would be sending a huge message if K&B was slotted for 9-12. However, I would have them go 6-10am and they overlap Hour #1 of tRBS. I hope CBS can take Rome from KNR because it is very tough to listen to his show without the 1st hour.asterisk said:I will throw in what I think could happen:
AMD - Kiley and Booms
Noon-3 - Jim Rome
PMD - Someone from WFAN
I would beg and plead to see K&B 9-noon.
CBS likes to run things almost 24/7 in these markets, so the names are impossible. Question - when's the last time you've heard Dennis Manoloff on KNR?
Nathan Obral said:Kiley and Booms have already committed to the 6AM-10AM slot. It would be awesome to see Jeff Thomas take a role as update anchor - and actually have a strong role on the show... as opposed to how WKNR barely gave him any notice. (Easy for Jeff to leave WEOL IMO... it's only a part-time gig.)
Afternoons will be said WFAN part-timer, from 2PM-6PM. (Following the lead of most CBS sports talkers, he'll likely be paired up with a former athlete.) I'll give one hint; his bovine nickname is the same as a former 92.3 K-Rock/107.9 The End host. This person has basically been WFAN's utility man over the past five years, bouncing around between practically every slot possible on that station. Pretty much widely respected by the FANbase over there. Got a chance to listen to him last night, and IMO, this is a very good promotion.
The 10AM-2PM and 6PM-10PM slots are still open. And it's safe to say there will be tons of live weekend programming as well. Pretty much the same amount of live programming that the Cablevision-era WKNR/1220 featured - carriage of FSR or Sporting News will be very minimal, if that. Plus a roster of update anchors and beat reporters need to be assembled.
In my own personal opinion, Ken Carmen and Dennis Manoloff should be seriously considered for a midday show. Nice blend of youth and energy without the kayfabe that is tRBS. It would also be awesome to see someone like Andre Knott get the 6PM-10PM slot, perhaps alongside Daryl Ruiter. Les would be fine for a reliable weekend slot.
Doesn't look like anyone from the Galleria will be poached, nor anyone from STO.
Bob Karlovec certainly deserved better than to be phased out at WKNR in favor of the current regime. He still has got a few good years left in him as a beat reporter and producer.
Andy Roth has his work cut out for him.

1. they're not 25 years old
2. they would want to be paid in more than Ramen noodles
3. they would balk at working 16 hours a day. (Chris Fedor must have a cot at the Galleria...that and no outside life)
vjm said:Andre Knott has a pretty good gig right now at WTAM, as well as his TV work on STO and WEWS, so I don't think he'll be jumping ship.
Tim said:I liked David Kelly too, Nathan.
It seems like he was going to Memphis to do play-by-play when he left Cleveland.
Would be great to have him back in northeastern Ohio.
vjm said:Romey is still locked up at the Galleria for a good while yet.
So him being poached is out of the question (check back this time next year).
More realistically, we're looking at:
Kiley and Booms from 6-10 a.m.
local host X from 10a-2p
local host Y from 2-6p
local host Z from 6-10p
and either FSR or Sporting News/"CBS Sports Radio" from 10p-6a
I think Les Levine's name is definitely in the hopper, but not in a slot that would interfere with his TWC TV show.
Les and Bud vs RBS perhaps?
OhioMediaWatch said:And good to hear about David Kelly. Looks like he ended up in Arizona taking a job with the University of Arizona's radio network (pre/post game, with IMG College), then one of the local TV stations picked him up. KSMB is the Fox affiliate in Tucson ("Fox 11").

We're hearing FSR for the late/overnight hours, much like "98.5 The Sports Hub" does in your neck of the woods.
I was talking about CBS launching their own overnight show (similar to Mr. Grayson's show, which had a cup of coffee on WBZ/1030) for the company's own sports stations. Still a rumor at this point, so don't go to the bank on it.
