CBS-FM To Air Three NY Giants Games

On September 13 and 27 and October 4, due to overflow from WFAN airing the Mets and WCBS-AM airing the Yankees, the station that will carry the New York Giants games that conflict with baseball will be WCBS-FM.

There's a big discussion over at the other NY radio board as to why this move makes sense. For example, they didn't want to place the games on 92.3 Now FM because it is a new station concentrating on building an audience. I guess the same can't be said for when 92.3 Free FM carried a few Giants games a few years ago, lol...

They should have put the games on NOW. The target audience of NOW also likes football, so it can't hurt them to put on a few Giants games. It would be funny if Chunky did play by play :-/

While I agree, consider the following from Hartford: When Infinity flipped WZMX 93.7 from Disco to Hip-Hop in 2001 they dropped he New England Patriots. They went to CC's ESPN Radio 1410 for a year or two and then ultimately to Marlin Broadcasting's 106.9 The Rock WCCC-FM.

Or better yet, sell the rights to those 3 games to Mega Media and build up some much needed exposure for 87.7 :) Like that will ever happen

Could CBS Radio just sell the rights to those games to another owner, or does it have to put it on it's O&O stations?

Or what about just using 1010 WINS for overflow? All-news listenership is usually low on weekends.
I think they put the games on an FM was because if FAN has Mets on to premept the Giants games. that means the Yankees are on CBS-AM at the same time. so they keep WINS open in case they have breaking news to cover

This weekend's helicopter/plane collision was sobering proof that CBS need not get caught with its pants down when news breaks, and both news stations are carrying sporting events...

By the way, I know that WFAN is the Mets' heritage outlet, but there ought to be something in their contract that, should they be doing horrible in September, that the Giants have precedence that Sunday and have the Mets game moved over to like WCBS' HD-2 channel or something...

I remember in 2005 meaningless Mets games that conflicted with Giants games were carried on 1130. I guess they don't have that kind of relationship anymore.

As for 92.3 being an overflow station during the Free-FM days, it was primarily a talk station, so between that and it's targeted demographics, it fit in a lot better.

I read somewhere that an FM station carried two high school football games at the same time by putting one game on the left channel and the other on the right channel.

Thats a music station, I am SORRY!! :-( why not a AM station. What will happen to the DJ at that time? WCBSFM is now high ratings now, why ruin a GOOD THING!! This is just STUPID!! :-(
