CBS FM

As usual, a great read, Vince.

Like most everyone, I would have preferred to hear Harry Harrison live, perhaps via a phoner, on this special anniversary weekend CBS-FM is holding - but I'll take a flashback hour on Saturday. "The Morning Mayor" must be recognized - just as Imus was when WFAN turned 25.

It is nice to hear the word oldie on WCBS-FM even if it is just for this weekend. They just played Get a Job by the Silhouettes from 1958.

Bruce

I've been listening since 6AM. It's nice to hear a lot of 60s songs and the old jingles again. Looking forward to Brucie tonight and Dan Daniel tomorrow. Dan was last on CBS-FM in August of 2004 doing a Saturday shift.

Harry Harrison, of all people. represents CBS-FM in their 40 year history. He was a constant on the station through the years. I wonder why he won't be doing a live show. Tomorrow morning would have been perfect. I remember he did a Saturday morning 60s show in 2004 and 2005 until Jack reared it's ugly head. Perhaps he wanted to return to do this when CBS returned two years later? He never did any of the Radio Greats shows on Sunday nights when CBS did them.

Great listening on line from Northeast Pa. This is the first time I've listened to CBS in quite awhile.

I did recorded Dan Taylor's show this morning right before I headed to work. It has some issues with the stream due to my CBS NY app that I'm using it now. I will post an aircheck of that soon.

In addition to that, they brought back the oldies from the late 50's and early 60's for this weekend. Take Poughkeepsie for example, WGNY's "Fox Oldies" is doing a lot better than CBS-FM, with some talents like Van Ritshie, Bob O, Buffalo Bob Corisino and Joe Manglass. They're the best people who made the station great. I hear Elvis "Return to Sender" on "Fox Oldies" and CBS-FM needs to play a lot of Elvis for this weekend. I also hear "Dizzy" by Tommy Roe on "Fox Oldies" as well. I hope "Fox Oldies" needs to bring a lot of listeners who used to listened to CBS-FM back in 1972. "V-A-C-A-T-I-O-N" by Connie Francis, Dobie Gray's "Drift Away" are all played on that station. As I said WGNY'$ "Fox Oldies" does have a library of the 50's 60's and 70's music without any 80's stuff thrown in. Kudos to "Fox Oldies" for doing such a great job playing the same oldies just like CBS-FM did when it first hit the airwaves 40 years ago this weekend back on 7/7/72.

Wow!! Does CBS-FM sound great today!! Cousin Brucie sounds like he hasn't aged a day. What a great weekend this is going to be!

I agree Tony, its a great weekend and Brucie loves what he does!!! Do you listen on siriusxm 6 he is Awesome!!! its worth the money!! :)

I absolutely agree that SiriusXM is worth the money, not only to hear Bruce sounding great on 6 but all the other great content and my local traffic. I listen to 5, 6, 1, and sports games (they have ALL of them) on the other side of the world. It's money well spent, and Bruce sounded so good IMHO because he's got his chops in top form from the Sirius gig. You're right, he hasn't aged a bit! He sounds just like the old days.

Bruce Morrow has enjoyed radio for 50 years.

He is the epitome of the expression, "It ain't braggin' if you can do it!"

He has done it, still doing it, and doing it well.

God Bless "The Cuz'"

For this weekend at least, CBS-FM sounds like the station I listened to in the 80s and 90s. It's like enjoying a visit to the neighborhood you grew up in. A lot looks the same but it isn't.

Enjoy the 40th anniversary weekend everybody! :)

As you know, CBS-FM is celebrating 40 years, and they're still playing the oldies this weekend, just like the way it sounded on WGNY's "Fox Oldies" right now. Both CBS-FM and "Fox Oldies" are still doing the same, playing a batch of pre-Beatles (1955-63) songs from doo-wop to early rock & roll. It will continue to do well this weekend. Let's hope to be the best.

This is the best CBS FM has sounded to me since July of 2007 when that horrible Jack format went away. I know the demo problems and the fact that they have to play late 70's early 80's music, but I'm one of those people who don't enjoy hearing 80's music mixed in with the 60's. but it is CBS and I'll listen once in awhile.

I'm listening to Dan Daniel. He still has it. He always had a way with words and did some really great segues. I would imagine this is the first air work Dan has done since he left CBS-FM in September of 2004.

I've listened to Fox Oldies, and enjoyed their music mix and PAMS jingles, but I have to ask: are they paying for you to constantly plug them like this? After a while, we get the point.

Anyway, CBS-FM is sounding superb this weekend. Although I enjoy their current regular format and presentation, it's still a nice change of pace to essentially hear the "old" CBS-FM resurrected for a weekend, with plenty of 50's/60's oldies, classic jingles, reverb, and of course, the great DJ's of the past. A great job by everyone involved.

Well put.

I felt the same during WABC Rewound on Memorial Days when I was up there. We still have a beach house in Ocean Beach, NJ. I had spent a lot of time there over the years.
Enjoy the 40th anniversary weekend everybody! :)
Ditto that.

Well done..had the opportunity to listen to Cousin Brucie for a bit last night with a smile on my face ear to ear...simply Radio the way it was meant to be!!! Bruce still has it-the Timing,The Energy,The Delivery the caring in his voice there is no doubt about it-he loves what he does and I'm impressed every bit the Brucie of the old WABC and WNBC.

What a great weekend of memories. Np if CBS could only fix their audio chain to sound the way they used to. It still needs work.

I have only managed to listen to some hours during this weekend. Did anyone out there record anything ...?

As a 90's kid...this weekend CBS-FM sounded like the station I remember loving as a kid. The Twilight Zone taught me you can never go home again...but this is damn close. Not to take away from "CBS-FM 2.0," but this has me glued to the radio again.

Job well done to everyone involved - and please keep the reverb!

I remember when CBS FM flipped to oldies in 1972, it was a few months prior to my 13th birthday. My brother is 12 years older then me, and I remember it like it was yesterday. My cousin, close to my brother's age, came over our house and said "have you heard 101, they now play oldies." My brother turned it on, I was listening to it with him, and as they say the rest is history. I immediately fell in love with the station. While most of my friends in the '70s were listening to PLJ and NEW FM, I was listening to CBS FM.

This weekend brings back those memories. My cousin now lives up in New Hampshire, and my Brother now lives in Las Vegas, but right now I feel pretty close to them.
