CBS-FM's "First" Song @ 1:01 PM...

An acquaintance informs me that tomorrow, when CBS-FM comes back in place of Jack, the first song will be Steely Dan's "Do It Again", as in "Go back, Jack; do it again."

You heard it here first...

Beach Boys.

Beach Boys - Do It Again --- just like the name of the Jam jingles "Do It Again."

what will the last song on jack fm be ???

will the last song on jack be Journey - Don't Stop believing ???

ok i know sapranos lol but its nyc so it might be the last song :)

Cant wait until tomarrow i will come home eat lunch then log on and listen to the last hour of jack-fm if the stream does not get taken down

Why not the obvious Ray Charles classic, "Hit the Road Jack!" I know that's what's been playing in my head all week. ;D

I think that's the best choice, but it won't be the first song. Bob 101 Shannon already said that much. Maybe they don't want to alienate the 3 people in the Metro area who actually like the Jack format. ;) (If only Jack had been so considerate when he debuted.)

I thought of the Steely Dan song too, but anything negative about Jack is probably out. The format is being put on the back burner, not blown out.

A few others I thought of.

"I Want to Hold Your Hand" (the song that started a revolution.)
Sinatra's "Summer Wind" backwards. (The last song on CBS-FM Mark 1, I believe.)
Sinatra's "New York New York"

I think I had a few more, but I can't think of them right now.

That's exactly why they're doing promos all week promoting the change - although some would argue it's to try and hold on to said 3 listeners...

btw CA, you are correct - "Summer Wind" was indeed the last song. Being it is the summer, it actually would be a good choice to start CBS V2.0, also...

While Ray Charles sounds like the obvious pick, I think the first song played--If not, One of the first to be played--should be John Sebastian's "Welcome Back". It's fitting without sounding too crass about returning.

Maxine Nightengale, "Right Back Where We Started From." From the "not-a-chance-in- hell-file," Kiss, "(Back In The) New York Groove"

And cut it where they sing "it goes on, and on, and on...:"?

Sorry, that would just be too hack!!!!!

Maybe another Sinatra song--New York, New York.

Hit The Road Jack while obvious, may sound cliched a bit.

Or if I want to really take a chance--Rock and Roll is Here to Stay by Danny and The Juniors.

But all I can say is welcome back CBS-FM 101.1--New York's Greatest Hits.

Re: what will the last song on jack fm be ???

I guess "Hit The Road, Jack" would be more apropos as Jack's last song, and not so much as CBS-FM's "first" song... For which, by the way, I've got another suggestion: The Beatles' "Get Back". (And for you Philly folk, how about "Here Comes The Sun?" ;D )

Looks like you're throwin' little ol' Jack under the BUS!

Jack to CBS-FM: How lame

Nothing screams "Oldies Format" like returning with the Beach Boys. They had only one big 70's hit and one big 80's hit.

A better montage into the new CBS-FM would have been . . .

Jack at 12:51 or so
Disappear (INXS)
Goodbye to You (Scandal)
Hit the Road Jack (Ray Charles)
Five seconds of dead air
1:01 PM: Legal ID jingle from '95
Theme from "New York, New York" (Frank Sinatra)
Welcome Back (John Sebastian)
Celebrate (Kool & The Gang)
Happy Days (Pratt & McLain)
Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now (McFadden & Whitehead)
Do It Again (The Beach Boys)
Good Times (Chic)

... onward for 101 hours, commercial-free. DJs start the following Monday.

FWIW "Do It Again" was a bigger hit in New York than it was nationally.

"Video Killed the Radio Star," anyone? ;)
