This according to All Access today:
Other CBS Format Wheels To Spin?

This news comes on the heels of reports of changes at other underperforming stations -- with the NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES markets the subject of rumors of format flips to Top 40, this FRIDAY (2/20). CBS has declined comment.

[EDIT]

So maybe management is finally getting it, and going to flip the Zone to something a little more competitive to go up against their main rival 107.9.
Whatcha think?

Stage...You're not thinking much. Last time i checked Sacramento has 3 CHR's. Why would a 4th be the answer. ???

Considering KZZO went from a 1.9 to a 2.5 (12+) in the last book (and not knowing specific demo
breakdowns), I would think it depends on what Clear As Mud Channel does with KQJK once they
acquire that CBS entity. Interestingly, KQJK also had a 2.5 in the last book, but went down from 2.9...

Then again, you'll soon have that move-in from Susanville to add to the already-overradioed 27th market...

Otherwise, far as Sacramento is concerned, CBS may want to enter the "No Format-Wheel-Spin Zone"
(apologies to Bill O'Reilly)...
;D

But stranger things have happened in RadioLand, no?

I agree with BossJock1947. BTW, CBS already has a top 5 money maker in Rhythmic Top 40 KSFM, so I don't see them adding another CHR to the Sacramento cluster.

for all intents and purposes, Rhythmic CHR and Urban Contemporary are the same.
Arbitron's Audience Composition Report shows that there's virtually no difference between Rhythmic CHR and Urban Contemporary in Persons 18-34, and a very small difference between 25-54.

Now if you look at several markets, many clusters have both a CHR and a Rhythmic CHR/Urban Contemporary.
So I don't see that as a problem.

Now, CBS is trying to sell off smaller market stations, including right here in Sacramento. It'd be a gamble if they spent a whole lot of money on launching a new format on a station they are trying to sell.

Although, they could gamble on it, in order to elevate the value of the station, which is entirely possible. However, knowing the corporate climate of the day, it seems unlikely.

Then again, The Zone is one of the most powerful radio stations in Northern California at 115 KW. If they did flip to CHR, they could compete with several stations that vie for the same demo. Thus, giving advertisers more bang for their buck.

Who knows.

Also, I wonder what's going to happen with Jack's studios. Would KSFM move in there? Thus eliminating the need for an office in the Bank building on howe avenue.
