CBS & Free FM

Now that Opie & Anthony, heard in Buffalo on The Edge, are on double secret probation from XM satellite radio, their only platform for the next 30 days appears to be terrestrial radio, particularly Free FM in New York.

Does this signal O&A's return to syndication? The issue gets more complicated when you consider the Free FM (hot talk, guy talk, raunch talk) format and Opie & Anthony seem to be failing in most markets. Buffalo is one of the few exceptions where O&A succeeed.

CBS appears ready to pull the plug on Free FM but appears enamored with O&A, despite their history. Will CBS return to music formats and playing the hits using the "strong morning show" + more music the remainder of the day formula?

Whenever I hear these two hate-mongering, spiteful, misogynistic, not-so-funny jerks on the radio I can't help think they're the luckiest bastards in the business, if not on the planet. Never has so little talent combined with so much bluster gone so far. They get PAID for this shlock? Apparently so... and millions! A-freakin-mazing! There's some consolation knowing their show has tanked in several markets, including NYC, their home-turf, which they frequently proclaim they own. O&A rag on other jocks and morning shows and get their maggots to harrass the competition, all the while, they're sucking mud.

Full of Sound & Fury

Have O&A succeeded in any market where they had competent, live & local, direct competition?

They've done well here in Buffalo thanks to the fact that they had Shredd & Ragan's audience handed to them. Who's competition for them here? Norton & Co. are targeted 35-54, not 18-34. Janet & her Pickle are Desperate Housewives. Rob Lucas? Oh, now there's edgy. Does WILD -er Z101 have a morning show?

You'd think that CBS - and Citadel - would have learned a lesson from the Stern debacle. DON'T PUT ALL YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET (CASE).
