CBS is suing Howard

I would agree that CBS has a pretty good case. In the old days when you announced you had another job, your present employer would have never let you go on the air another minute but in this case, they let Howard continue to work through his agreement, giving him enough rope to hang himself by not adhering to the terms.

I still think his deal is enough to bring that bird down. Especially after seeing the poll where 80 percent of his former listeners said they wouldn't pay for the show.

I haven't glanced at each of the complaints but I saw one involved Stern's constant plugging of Sirius while still under contract. But didn't CBS just sit back and rake in millions knowing his final months would be a ratings winner? They had the option of booting him early, but they saw the opportunity to bank on all the attention Stern was getting, and they sat back and filled their pockets? Now they're bitching at all the attention he was giving to Sirius when back then they just put up with it just to keep the dough rolling in?

Is it a coincindence this happens on the same day that word of their free-fm's tanking comes out? IMHO the company needs to just forget about Stern, move on, and pay more attention to the mess their higher ups made bringing in the likes of Carolla and Roth. Granted 1 month doesn't predict what the future holds for these shows, but man you would think a good number of people would have just stuck around on the same frequency that Stern left just as a habit and yet it seems everyone left and found other morning shows.

Hooray for Howard! He has at least another 18 months-plus of material to play victim to.

Playing victim is what his shtick has been reduced to. Kind of sad, actually.

Very good, valid points. I do think that some of this amounts to Howard's need to play the victim. It is sad that he has to resort to this, as he is just O.K. I have been listening to Sirius since he went on, and I don't think he is setting the world on fire to this point. Today's show was really bad -- he had that nutcase wife of a former Mets and now Orioles pitcher on the show and allowed her to take over essentially. Last week he had Roger Ebert and John Stewart at the same time in his studio, and had to screw up the interview to engage Roger into a fight with Debbie Schlossel (another shrill person.) That was all he could do with Howard and John for 30 minutes? His show does not sound markedly different from the old show to this point, except for the lack of commercials. He said he had lost his creative skills due to the FCC fines. What happened to the jock from 20 years ago with the new, edgey content? I never heard him then, but whatever it was has to be better than what he is giving us now. The more he whines about Les Moonvies and CBS the less we will care. I have to say that I am really surprised that Howard sounds so old, so quickly.

I have been talking about this all the while last year. They KNEW what he was promoting Sirius...AS HE WAS DOING IT. So why complain now?

It's not Howard's fault they were so ignorant of the obvious. They should have let him go when he asked to be let go. Then there would not be a problem. They CREATED a problem...and it seems deliberate on their part. I don't think any competent judge could side with CBS/Infinity on this one. Nice try, but no cigar...

Probably, but they knew without Howard, Free FM would be a tough sell. It is not Stern's fault because he was not a part of Free FM. CBS didn't have the guts to stand up to the FCC and defend Howard as vigorously as they could have if they truly knew his worth and for that, they automatically lost.

Howard and Sirus are going down and I will certainly enjoy this. Did you guys notice this was released at 5pm Eastern time (after the market closed). It's time to dump Sirus stock before it's worthless and is acquired by XM, as I predicted on here two months ago. In pure Howard fashion he'll make a PR move like you've never seen before and go out like a fireball in political showmanship. Then he'll retire to the Hamptons in disgrace with his blond, bimbo trophy wife.

Howard's deal is very heavy on stock options. I don't think his compensation will single-handedly bring down Sirius. If they do merge with XM, it'll likely be more due to the large number of 'subscribers' who inherit the service through a car purchase, who do not renew when the free period is over.

Releases late in the afternoon, especially on Fridays, is nothing new. Politicians do it all the time.

I agree with the rest of what you say about Howard, especially given his perpetual victim portrayal.

Not sure he's married to Beth Ostrosky yet, though.

In January, he said that they were not married. Howard thinks marriage will screw up the relationship. Beth Ostrosky seemed like a nice, sensitive person when I listened to her; that she is a babe is obvious. He interviews bimbos all of the time, but I wouldn't put her in that category, not from what I've heard.
