CBS Keeps 'Thursday Night Football' for 2015

Thursday Night Football matchups with the exception of the first game of the year and Thanksgiving are usually the dog match-ups for the week.
CBS had a big crop of stinker games last season.
I seem to recall that the first 3 or 4 weeks were blowout laughers.

I agree, and I'm pretty sure that subject came up during the negotiations, and I'd expect they'll have a bit more input on the games this season.
Yeah, I read somewhere that CBS was a bit dissatisfied with the slate of games they ponied a lot of money up for and were looking to tweak the contract terms to appear more attractive.
For example, to get 8 weeks of TNF, CBS actually lost a doubleheader in Week 16 and one Wild Card playoff game.

Next year I would expect some better matchups during those first 8 weeks and less traditionally garbage games like Carolina/Jacksonville or Cincinnati/Cleveland or NYJets/Anyone.

there was a good chargers 49ers game in week 16 that went to ot

It looks like CBS should make a deal for all the Thursday games but they should push for better matchups. Just making a deal for half the season never made much sense to me, even when Sunday night games were split between ESPN and TNT.

Could it be that NBC and its flex scheduling clause for "SNF" in the latter half of the season does not allow for CBS to simulcast NFLN "TNF" games in the same period?

Matchups don't really matter. The NFL will still win the timeslots easily. CBS gets to charge advertisers premium rates and has a great vehicle to launch its fall programming, as well as some cushion to reduce reruns, as the Thursday night programs won't start until Halloween.
