CBS Kills WBCN in Boston; Toucher & Rich Survive

CBS Radio is blowing up WBCN-FM in Boston, home of former 99Xers Toucher and Rich, and introducing WBZ-FM, The Sports Hub. Apparently Toucher and Rich will do mornings on the new sports station.

Could that happen here? I say by the end of 2010 either 92.9 or 100.5 flip to sports. I know 100.5 has a weaker signal but if the go mono doesn;t that improve the signal?

Perhaps we should quickly chip in and buy a translator in Boston then turn araound and sell it to them n a year for a nice profit.

Apparently, the deal in Boston involves moving the format of WBMX 98.5 to 104.1, and WBZ-FM launching on 98.5. Which brings me to this fun trivia fact:

WBZ-FM will be the second three-letter callsign station located on 98.5 in the US. The first one is located in...that is right, Atlanta (WSB-FM/B98.5).

The many ways you can connect things going on in other parts of the country to your own backyard.

WCBS in New York City with TV2, 880AM and 101.1FM. KCBS could qualify though the TV is in Los Angeles, and the AM & FM are in San Francisco.

Well, CBS does have rights to a sports franchise (Falcons), and it's not like 680 and 790 are setting the world on fire. "92.9 The Fan" is possible at this point.

Is there any other set of AM-FM-TV calls in use together anywhere else than WSB and WBZ?

WLS-TV, owned by ABC; WLS-AM & FM owned by Citadel.

To the learned poster above's comment about WBZ-FM going to 98.5, do you think WBZ will be voted number one station to listen to at work, just like our station at 98.5?

"Voted number one while you watch the game!"

Toucher & Rich being former 99x employees, have former co-workers and friends who work for Q100. Bear with me here. Some Q100 staffers today at the water cooler might have taken some time out of their busy day to discuss the WBCN flip and Toucher & Rich. Therefore I submit to you that this in some small way, affected Q100.
