CBS Kindly asks 101.9 to do away with copy-cat ads.

I noticed that 101.9 has removed any reference to "22 minutes" in their promos; now they refer to it as "20 to 30 minutes".

And it's good that 101.9 is only giving 10 minutes of news, because that's only as long as I can stand their terribly over-compressed audio processing until my ears start to bleed! It makes me feel out of breath to listen, because their processing amplifies the pauses between the announcers' words so much that they sound like they're all gasping for air.

WEMP 101.9 made no gains in the Holiday PPM ratings, which have just been released. The news station's overall ratings declined a bit to .5. I am not sure whether their TV advertisements had been in full swing yet.
But I would expect that the holiday period is not a strong one for news stations.

1010 WINS: Give is 22 minutes; we'll give you the world.
101.9 WEMP: Give us 6 months; we'll give you a .5

With FM News, I always feel like they're pushing so much news at me so fast that I feel like telling them to slow down. Most times, they have no transition between stories so Im not even aware that there's another story playing.

Speaking of false advertising, CBS should stop using a media player with the URL named 'Stream the World' since it closed off its media player to non-U.S. listeners about a year ago. Turkeys!

News 101.9 is streamed worldwide, however. Oh joy!

CBS told them to cease and desist. They complied, unlike some who would sit there and tell them, as their defense, that they are part of a bigger company that can find all kinds of ways around anything CBS tried to throw at them.

Some companies are just too slick for their own well-being.

WINS is still saying "NYs one and only all news station" though.

Since WEMP is barely reaching 2% of the MSA population, I think they can keep saying it. :p ::)

How about use Itunes radio on your PC can you get any CBS O&O from there. I know I can get UK stations on I tunes radio.

Thanks, Recto for the advice, but CBS has got its stations closed off to non-U.S. residents at iTunes radio, as well as at the other streaming portals.

When you click on a CBS station at iTunes radio, and the other portals, you either get; (1) no reaction, (2) a written apology that the station isn't available to listeners in your "territory", or (3) a stupid recorded voice saying that the "Suits" have caused the stream to be shut down.

Very lame, if you ask me. Evidently there is farfetched concern among lawyers at CBS, and at some of the other major U.S. radio groups, that unpredictable international law suits could arise over music royalties due for streams originating Stateside which are being listened to internationally, or for royalties due to performers in commercial spots. The second concern, in particular, seems to have triggered the suspension of international streams for many U.S. news/talk stations.

Also, there's the possibility that certain corporate tightwads are seeking to avoid bandwidth charges associated with streaming their stations to non-U.S. residents, when advertising revenues resulting from catering to this demographic are seemingly non-existent. The point they're missing, in this case, is that many of the non-U.S. residents who are affected are actually somewhat affluent expatriate Americans, like me, who continue to spend considerable amounts of money at U.S.-based businesses, both online and during frequent visits to the U.S.

Forrtunately a number of other U.S. broadcasters don't follow the above policies, so quite a few American stations are still available overseas.

Look KGO-AM 810 did use a WEMP type phrase "Non-Stop bay area News for 10 Minutes". That Phrase is based on the fact that KCBS740/106.9 San Francisco has to air the CBS hourly news for 5-6 minutes. Look KGO-AM 810 is basically the California edition of WEMP. Look at KCBS they answers back and said "The only-All News Station in the Bay Area". Look guys even a Cumulus owned station like KGO is resorting to WEMP tactics. These tactics are not only a Merlin problem they are also a problem for people who want to take on a flagship CBS O&O All-news station.
