CBS, NBC Will Get Extra NFL Playoff Game Under Expanded Format

ESPN is going to try to move MNF back to ABC and get into the Super Bowl rotation when the next TV contract comes up for renewal.

That would be a smart move, assuming they could pull it off. Of course, this would be the time to negotiate that sort of deal because of the uncertainty whether the 2020 NFL season will even happen.

At a minimum, ABC O&O's plus affiliates would LOVE to have MNF back in their lineup.

Nick is doing a Kids version...
That's the real surprise of the deal, Nickelodeon doing one of the playoff games. What's a "kids version", Patrick and Spongebob doing the play-by-play? I remember kid-oriented shows like the Baseball Bunch or NBA Inside Stuff, but those weren't actual games.

Probably explanations of game action and rules that adults who've been watching football for decades wouldn't need to have explained to them. Remember, these are kids who might be much more into online gaming -- as participants -- than watching team sports on TV. And fewer kids are playing youth football every year due to parental concern about concussions and leagues dissolving because of high insurance costs or declining interest. The big challenge will be keeping a Nickelodeon audience engaged for an event that lasts, on average, 3 1/4 hours.
