CBS needs to drop talk on 1210 WPHT

I guess you missed the part where I actually checked out a Leykis show from KFI and said it wasn't as bad as his later stuff. I didn't jump up and down and proclaim it the greatest thing ever. It wasn't terrible, but I've heard 100 shows just like it and just as good. I don't know why that hurt your little feelings so much.

And a Leykis fan telling anyone to grow up is just ripe with irony. I don't care if you didn't like the shock jock turn he made. You're the one championing the guy, and it's just sad. He couldn't even keep that awful wine and food one hour show on weekends. Perhaps his problem isn't that he isn't talented. Maybe he's just a jerk that can't keep a job.

Do you have ADHD? Seriously? You're incapable of staying on topic. My comments about Leykis were in reference to his talk shows on KFI. You heard part of ONE show---one that was out-of-the-norm for him given the build-up to the first gulf war. Explaining this to you the first time wasn't exactly a demonstration of me having my "feelings hurt". It was evidently a futile attempt to reason with the unreasonable. You're quite irrational and ill-informed. God only knows how this manifests itself on your "old fashioned" small market morning show. I guess you get what you pay for.

Let me explain a little something about radio since you obviously know nothing about it.

A trained ear can listen to a short portion of a show and know if it's any good.

The Leykis clip I listened to from KFI was OK. It wasn't bad. It wasn't great, either. I don't know why you refuse to accept this. You obviously got your feelings hurt because you're making personal attacks towards me and what I do for a living.

Which brings me right back to this point. I'm on the radio and Leykis isn't. You can insult all you want, but that's the fact.

First of all, Leykis has more listeners on his internet only show than you cume in a year.

Secondly---and the best for last: A trained ear? YOU? LOL! Even an actual "trained ear" cannot assess a show based on one single broadcast, especially if that one show is not representative of what that host typically does.

The hits just keep on coming with you, don't they! You're clearly angry, jealous and frustrated. I cannot imagine why. :D

Then again, Leykis can AFFORD to be off the radio. Thanks to his many years of success. I hope your IRA is paid up.

Then why is he taking one day gigs? He's desperate to get back on radio and no one wants him. Again, it's probably because he's a jerk to work with. He made a lot of money back in his day. He was as big as anyone in radio. But I don't think he'd be hawking a podcast and taking one day gigs if he had "F-U" money.

Now you're just making stuff up. I don't know why you're so angry. I said the KFI show wasn't that bad.

Leykis is excellent at promoting himself. Always has been One day gigs, apparently unbeknownst to you, are a great way to spread the word. He also used HIS OWN MONEY to start up an expensive endeavor. Yes, he used that very F-U money discussed earlier to do that.

Now you're just making stuff up. I don't know why you're so angry. I said the KFI show wasn't that bad.

I'm not angry, I'm amused. You're the one calling names and throwing tantrums. You're also the one who has very little knowledge on this subject, but who continues to make grand and broad proclamations further demonstrating your lack of awareness.

Leykis has also discussed why he has turned down offers to return to OTA radio. He is a proven ratings-getter at a time when radio desperately needs proven talent---but if it makes you feel better to believe nobody wants him, then that's your delusion.

Just curious, since your extensive knowledge of Leykis's show has you believing that he was awful on average and only average at his peak, WHO exactly do YOU think are great hosts? Let's have some names.

You make it sound like he's doing a lot of these. He's doing one. Just one. Filling in for Gil Gross. He's doing it because it's fun, not for the money.

I remember when Leykis worked at KFI, sometimes on his vacations he'd actually go fill-in for a week at other major market stations. lol

He filled in for Larry King, who was a fan of his.

He's a radio guy. He's exactly the kind of guy SMG would like if he wasn't inherently biased against him.

I didn't say I didn't respect what he's done. He's been very successful. I just think he's a terrible person. I even liked the idea of his weekend food and wine show, but he did it in the stupid shock jock Leykis voice and ruined the whole thing.

For Hot Talk? Stern, O&A and Imus in their respective heydays were all better. Of course they're all shells of themselves at this point. But there are some examples. Phil Hendrie wasn't a "shock jock", but at one point before his gimmick got old, he did good shows. Steve Dahl was good. Ron and Fez were good for about a 3 year stretch. Don and Mike.

Is that enough names for you? Are they acceptable?

Sadly, yes. I was hoping you'd throw out some typical talk garbage hosts so I could shoot them down, but most of those I agree with.

I disagree that Stern is a shell of himself. I think he's as funny as ever. I actually didn't like the corny bits he did at WNBC, but the banter was always his forte, not the bits.

The most underrated of these performers, IMHO, is Don Geronimo. One of the best storytellers I've heard.

The one exception I have is Hendrie. For me, that schtick got old after the first hour of hearing it.

See? We can find common ground. It took me a little longer to get tired of Hendrie, but the logistics involved in doing that bit earned him my respect.

Geronimo used to work at one of my old stations. I barely missed him (he left before I started), but everyone who worked with him said he was an absolute genius.

So let's turn this around. Who would you list as "garbage" hosts? I bet the list isn't that different from mine.

I could list a bunch of the usual suspects (Laura Ingraham and all the guys whose first name is the first syllable of their last name, come to mind), but we really do know who they are. They do a show that is not distinctive from any other show. Their personalities do not distinguish them from the pack. They repeat the same mono-themed content in mostly the same way, every-single-day, every-single-month, and it's mostly just ideological political talking points. Granted, the list is heavy on conservative hosts, but that's mainly because most of the hosts out there are conservative.

Hugh and Lars, I assume? They're awful. Laura isn't as bad as they are, but still not on my list of good hosts.

You've just described the majority of music format disc jockeys. The talk hosts you describe play a tight little "playlist" of the current "hit" talk topics. That's what makes most news/talk radio as boring as most music format radio. But of course, being boring is the secret to getting high ratings, or so I've been told in this forum by people who claim to be the experts.

"Boring" is a subjective word. What's boring to some is exciting to someone else. Our job is to deliver the most people to our advertisers. If it's boring, so be it.

Yeah and I would love to see KTKR daypart with Oldies. San Antonio, Texas has too many Sports stations in my opinion. Austin has too many Indie stations in my opinion, and Houston has too many hip hop or CHR variant stations.

In San Antonio, Texas you have KTKR 760, KONO 860 (YES THEY DROPPED THE CLASSIC HITS ON AM), KZDC 1250, KTSA 550 as News/Talk and Sports.

In Austin KTXX The Horn is dayparted Classic Hits and Sports. But more Sports than Classic Hits and nothing like the Classic Hits on 98.9 Austin's Greatest Hits played. I wish the Horn dropped Sports and replaced it with News/Talk and Classic Hits all on one station. I just couldn't turn it off, unless the Classic Hits were a 20 song jukebox.

Then you have the AAA craze in Austin:

93.3 KGSR
98.9 KUTX
100.1 KDRP
103.1 iHeart
105.3 The Fringe
TOO MANY!!!
Maybe it's time for 103.1 to flip to Spanish Oldies like their sister station in San Antonio 105.7 does.

In my opinion I also think that Clear Channel should flip 93.3 to simulcast WOAI-1200 so I can listen to Hannity on my cellphone which has a built in FM radio. Or have KTSA-AM simulcast on 95.7 dropping La Ley. After all Austin dropped La Ley in 2009. And Austin is 36 percent Hispanic according to the Census Bureau 2010 survey.

What I like about Austin is I can listen to KLBJ-AM on FM!

I'd ask you how you know this, but I know you just made it up. YOU don't like right wing talk, so you just assume no one else does.

Let me tell you something. The Phillies DO NOT CARE WHAT IS ON THE STATION THE REST OF THE DAY. They just want people to listen when they are on.

Seriously, how old are you? You're throwing a tantrum worse than my kid did when she was 3 years old.

See my above post.
