cbs news on KayFwhyeye?

At a half hour break I thought I heard CBS news on KFYI, at the top of the hour they had FOX news, Did I hear correctly?

KFYI has had a CBS affiliation for some time...and uses CBS News story packages within some of their local news breaks...you may have heard the end of one of those reports.

Not sure when KFYI switched from CBS to Fox News, but I remember back in 2004 when Dan Rather on 60 Minutes Wednesday reported on George W. Bush military service and cited forged documents, Liddy and Hill (remember them?) spent many hours bad-mouthing Rather and CBS News. Very uncomfortable when throwing to CBS for a news break.

Doesn't this throw a monkey wrench into Barry Young's "think like the media game?" Aren't they the media too? After all they are running stuff from the "bias" CBS?

Since taking the air in 1985, KFYI has been affiliated with Mutual, CBS, NBC, Fox and ABC. During much of the late 1980s -1990s, CBS was the prime affiliation and KFYI usually aired the top of the hour newscast and used many CBS-fed reports and soundbites. KTAR grabbed CBS for a while and basically buried the top of the hour newscast. KFYI then turned to NBC and eventually ABC-E before getting CBS back. ABC-E newscasts were not as premium as KTAR's ABC-I casts. But when NBC turned to crapola.... they had to find someone, so ABC -E was it. They have more recently been affiliated with Fox, but apparently have CBS as a secondary affiliation. A lot of this also has to do with obtaining sports rights. Back in the day, CBS carried the baseball playoffs and World Series and KFYI ran them, even when those games aired in the afternoon. Much has changed since then. But KFYI may have CBS now because XTRA needs them for some rights package. Just a guess, though.

thanks for the info,

so it should be easy for Barry and the gang to play their contest "think like the media" because they are the media! (if Barry still works there)

When we added FOX, I still wanted to retain CBS as an additional resource. It doesn't hurt to have two networks if the spot schedule can be worked out. Lots of stations had more than one network back in the day and I imagine that trend continues
