CBS NEWS OR NEWS/TALK BRANDING

Why does CBS brand some of their news/talk stations "NewsRadio" when in fact, the station isn't all-news? WCBS New York is branded "WCBS Newsradio 880", which is self-explanatory, since the station is all-news. WCCO Mpls-St. Paul is "WCCO NewsRadio 830" and is only news in AM Drive. KDKA Pittsburgh is "KDKA NewsRadio 1020" and has news blocks in AM and PM Drive and talk the rest of the day. KMOX St Louis brands as "KMOX NewsRadio 1120" and is similar.

Just curioius! :)

Separately, I'm pretty sure that some of those non-All News CBS-owned stations had used "News/Talk" as their branding at some point. My hunch is that the branding was changed to "News Radio" in order to differentiate the stations from their local competitors. (That may also help to explain WTMJ's continued use of "News Radio"--as competitor WISN uses "News/Talk".)

WCCO used "News/Talk" and in 2008 changed the branding (not the format) to NewsRadio 830 to bring it in line with other CBS O&O news/talk outlets.

CBS' news simulcast in SF is branded All-News, since the station has no sports or talk programming. It's the only CBS news or news/talk outlet to use the brand "All-News". :)

How about WINS 1010 AM(Due to Group W ownership) in New York and WNEW-FM In DC the 2 CBS O&O's with a Cumulus/ABC-E Affiliation and its labeled "All-News All-The Time".

I know that WYAY-FM is the only Cumulus O&O to get the branding all-News while the other Cumulus O&O's like KGO-AM and KLIF-AM get the branding "News and Information" because they were competing against CBS O&O's KCBS and KRLD in their markets.
