CBS Phoenix Sold!!!

Well, that was the prediction, anyway.

Back on June 28th, a post entitled "Good thing Bonneville has the extra space..." claimed that TMISU would be picking up the CBS Phoenix cluster, with the announcement coming within 30 days.

That was 29 days ago. It may be premature, but I think it is safe to say that tomorrow will come and go without said announcement.

Prior to the above prognistication, a couple of posts - both over 2 months old now - addressed pending management changes at 840 N. Central. Reliable sources, we were told, named names. Yet the promised changes never materialized.

Now I know that these were just predictions pulled out of a certain orifice by people trying to stir stuff up around here, but I was wondering if those people would care to comment upon those predictions and explain why (fingers crossed until tomorrow) they have thus far failed to come true.

Money issues? Perhaps CBS and Bonneville are working out the financial details, dotting every i and crossing every t. I think we all agree CBS doesn't want to sell to Cumulus. Until a deal is done (if it ever is), we can speculate all we want! :)

That probably settles it! What made anyone think CBS wanted to leave Phoenix in the first place? :)

This report right here:

http://www.radio-info.com/news/tri-newsletter-cbs-may-be-close-to-announcing-more-station-sales

The only interested party I see in this report is Cumulus and as has been said before, CBS doesn't really want to sell to Cumulus. Bonneville isn't mentioned anywhere.

Of all the makets mentioned, Phoenix is the largest. :)

A few points....

1. I don't doubt that the CBS Phoenix cluster is up for sale. Everything is always for sale, after all.

2. I do doubt that CBS "doesn't really want to sell to Cumulus." Cumulus' money spends just as well as Bonneville's, and I'm sure if the price were right, CBS would sell the stations to just about anybody.

3. The point of the original post was that. according to some people, the deal was already done and would be announced by the end of this month.

As before, I await the response of the original prognosticators to explain the obvious discrepancy between their prediction and reality.
