CBS plays Zeppelin.. I give up

It was "Immigrant Song", while a short song is one of their heaviest.

Which brings me to ask what is there that Q104 plays that CBS wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole?

It's from 1971...it's an oldie....it's a classic hit, why shouldn't CBS-FM play it?

If it's classic, play it.

Better Zeppelin, than say....Skid Row

Zeppelin had several hits on 45rpm. I remember hearing Stairway to Heaven, Immigrant Song and Whole Lotta Love on AM radio back in the 70's. I think "All of My Love" from "In through the Out Door" also got some top 40 airplay if I'm not mistaken

Zeppelin had 6 songs crack the top 40 and ten chart on the Billboard Hot 100. Immigrant song spent 13 weeks on the charts and peaked at number 16 in 1971.

The best performing Zeppelin single was Whole Lotta Love, 15 weeks on the Hot 100, peaked at #4 in 1970.

All Of My Love was never an official single outside of South America, but got some airplay.

Similar story for Stairway to Heaven, it was never an official single but got airplay.

"All My Love" had lots of airplay, at least on XETRA (Mighty) 690, in Southern California back in late '79 and '80...AM top 40 was great back then!

If I'm not mistaken, it hit #2 on the local KHJ or KRTH radio surveys back in late '79.

Supposedly there was a 45 released for "Stairway" for radio stations only....8 minutes on one side!
A promo single.

While I am not a Zeppelin fan, I see no reason to not include their Top 40 hits.

Plenty I would think.

The only Led Zeppelin Song played on CBS FM regularly on the original station was Stairway To Heaven. In fact it did not become a regularly played song till 1992. Before that, it only got played on their Top 500 Countdown. From 1975 on that song would be voted into the survey so CBS FM would play it then on the countdown. But like many other songs on these Top 500 surveys, that was the type of song the station felt people wanted to hear on countdowns but not regularly. Same with many doo wop songs. In the 90's doo wop fans rallied around a few obscure songs that would hit the countdown but still not be played in regular rotation except for the Doo Wop Shop and maybe a 50's show.

In 1992, CBS FM put Stairway To heaven by led Zeppelin in Regular Rotation. Once Bob Shannon played it back to back with Neil Sedaka's Stairway To Heaven in the feature "Songs with the same title BUT are different." Speaking of Bob Shannon, still CBS is keeping it quiet. My guess is that both Bob and the station want privacy on what is wrong with Bob and when they feel its the right time they will let us know. My hope is that one day Bob comes back on the air with no fanfare and simply tells us what happened when he feels its right to do. He could be gone for any number of reasons but lets be patient and we will hear about what is going on at the right time.
