CBS Punks Viewers With 23-Second PSU Assistant Coach "Interview"

For several hours, CBS has been hyping an "exclusive" interview with Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary that actually turned out to be no more than a couple dozen seconds in length. In fact, the "interview" only contained two questions, the second of which Armen Keteyian prefaced with "just one last thing."

For a 23-second spot, I'd rather watch Columbo conduct the interview.

Anyone think CBS would be even thinking about booking McQueary had NBC not interviewed with Jerry Sandusky the night before?

This is plain silly. Just about every news/infotainment outlet, from NYTimes to ET to PBS to Howard Stern, would kill for the first extended sit-down with the then 28-year-old Paterno-lover who, according to his grand jury testimony, decided to just let a tween be brutally raped in a locker room shower by a 50-something "coach".

If he truly intervened and stopped the assault, as he now weepingly claims, the next question would be why he thought it was unwise to dial 911, stand there with the naked coach and his hard-on, and wait until the police arrived to take the rapist into custody.

Furthermore, looking at the transcript, the interview not only reveals nothing, but is nothing but a whole lot of nothing.

Walter Cronkite and Edward Murrow are practically rolling in their graves tonight.

Naah. If anything, they're probably asking themselves WHAT WAS THAT ??

The whole Penn State scandal is something that not even Howard's father Bill Stern could come up with as a story for his Bill Stern's Sports Newsreels radio program (If he did, NBC would've fired his ass & would've gotten about as much press as the latest happenings in the war back in those days - All of it BAD)

JMO.....

Cheers & 73 ;D

Please explain how anythign 23 seconds in length can be considered "extended."

Nothing but a "snowglobe." That's it. Merry Christmas.

I was not aware of any promotions for this interview broadcast during "The CBS Evening News" on Tuesday. I did not mind the length of the conversation broadcast (there could be more to the conversation, but someone considered the part broadcast worthy of attention). The only part of the interview I did not like is Armen Keteyian using word "crazy" rather than asking Mike McQueary to elaborate on his answer.

Here is a link to an article (with video and a transcript) about the report and interview from CBS:

The rude language was unnecessary. You could have typed, "If he did, "NBC would've fired him and he would've gotten about as much press as the latest happenings in the war back in those days".

You probably weren't on Twitter, where it was teased for most of Tuesday afternoon. And can you imagine if they teased the interview during Tuesday's newscast, only to present that in the final segment? Heads would have been requested for that move.
