CBS Radio announced its HD-2 plans for the Queen City on May 1, 2006 according to CBS Radio's Press Release: http://www.cbsradio.com/releases/view_release.php?date=/060501_3STATION FORMAT WNKS-FM Christian CHR WKQC-FM 60's and 70's Hits WBAV-FM Urban Talk WPEG-FM Hip Hop Oldies WSOC-FM New Country Nice to see that Oldies will be on WKQC-2. There isn't anything overly surprising or impressive here...Comments, anyone?

I think Christian CHR is an interesting move. Good fit for the market. I'd like to know who thought of that.Urban Talk? I don't know about that one. I would have liked to have seen them do a Smooth Jazz format. That would be in line with their brand imaging anyway. You know that Urban Talk won't be local. There won't be enough HD listeners to call in for awhile.I like the Oldies choice for WKQC, it should be interesting.Does anyone have an HD radio yet?

I would have thought CBS would have made WBAV's multicast into a smooth jazz format. I mean come on, they have the Sunday Jazz brunch that's been successful. Urban talk? are you kidding me, I agree with Mike, who's going to be calling in.What about Spanish CHR, Neo Soul, Dance, Chill, Reggae, etc? If they really want to get people hooked on HD, why not go for formats not currently on the air instead of "playing it safe" and just slightly tweaking the old formats. ::)I guess we'll have to wait until HD-3 and the AM stations to see if HD Radio is really worth the money, because right now it's not looking to hot. Has Radio One, JP/Lincoln Media, or any of the AM or public radio stations made any comments about switching to HD radio?

New Country on WSOC! I think Classic country would have been a better move.As far as urban talk, I doubt it will be locally produced. Probably piped in and simulcast on many other stations around the country. I agree though, boring! Although these choices are better than CC's I believe.

Once again, Charlotte gets stuck with very 'safe' and bland formats. No active rock, alternative or previously mentioned formates such as smooth jazz or Spanish CHR. Looks like I'll keep listening to my XM.

Hip Hop Oldies? Ooookay. Well that's sure a new one on me.I'm with most of the rest of you guys...what about Smooth Jazz? And what will be different on WSOC's Hot Country channel than their current regular format? I think Classic Country would have been a much better bet, even if CC is playing it already. I wonder when we'll see real, live/local programming on HD-2?

I think live programming on HD-2 is still a while away. Although WJMK-2 in Chicago has resurrected the oldies format chucked last June with the same DJs on HD-2, that is the only station that I can recall that actually has LIVE DJs on HD-2. As far as local, as I travel often to Charlotte, but reside mostly in the New York City metro area, I've heard plenty of "local" programming over on HD-2. I think most (if not all) of the New York HD-2s are produced in-house and have their own "flavor." Try any of CC's HD-2s in New York City (or anywhere) or even WJMK-2 or WCBS-FM-2. The "local" factor shouldn't be the problem. The creativity is what's the problem for the most part.

The Broker: "I wonder when we'll see real, live/local programming on HD-2?"Locally originated programming, maybe. But "live", that's probably years away. Afterall, in many cases, today's companies are unwilling to pay for "live" talent on their current stations with many more listeners and dollars than any HD channel will have for sometime to come.
