CBS Radio changes at 102.3 WMBX West Palm Beach

CBS Radio's CHR empire is heading to South Florida. A reliable source at CBS Radio tells me that X102.3 will become a Rhythmic CHR Hot 102.3 with a format similar to AMP and NOW.

This sounds a little fishy. Why would they tinker with this station which has good numbers and not touch the BUZZ which has continued to underperform since howard stern left. It doesn't make sense.

Even though this is just a rumor I can see this happening, but first of all let's be clear on something.
When someone posts South Florida they may not necassarily be talking about a Miami-Ft. Lauderdale station. The Palm Beaches-Boca Raton market is also part of South Florida.

Perhaps X-102.3 may be doing well ratings-wise, but how is it performing revenue-wise?
We know that West Palm Beach doesnt have another FM Urban/Hip Hop station, and we also know that 102.3's signal reaches the entire West Palm Beach market unlike CHR/Pop outlet Wild 95.5. That is b/c Wild 95.5's signal is based closer to Ft. Pierce and as a result doesnt reach the Boca area very well. Boca Ration is a VERY wealthy area, and is a significant part of the West Palm Beach market (though at the same time almost every Miami-Ft. Lauderdale signal can easily be picked up in Boca.)

So, do I see X-102.3 going a bit more Pop but keeping its Rhythmic edge? Yes. I could easily see it moving towards a Now 92.3 New York sound.

The logical choice here would be for CBS to flip 103.1 The Buzz. The 103.1 frequency needs to be put out of its misery once and for all. X-102.3 doesn't need any fixing. It is performing well, whereas 103.1 is an underperforming station that needs to be flipped. CBS has nothing to lose by doing this. Just like a very old saying says" If it isn't broken, don't fix it". X-102.3 is just fine the way it is. Tinkering with X-102.3 will only make their ratings go south.

....a little birdie told me CBS is selling the buzz????
