CBS Radio (Infinity) HD2 services in Houston

According to a posting and link on the new HD Radio board, the two CBS Radio FMs in Houston will be launching HD2 streams.

KILT-FM HD2 will run something called "Future Country."

KHJZ HD2 will have Traditional Jazz.

So there are definite plans for HD2 for six of the nine signals on the newly renovated Senior Road stick (see earlier posts about the CC stations.) KBXX, KKBQ and KRBE have yet to annouce any HD2 plans as far as I know, however KRBE apparently has its main HD signal up now.

Is there a place where I can find out how far out these HD2 signals will go?
______________

Looks good... Are there HD adapters for traditional AM/FM radios?

They won't go anywhere because no one has an HD radio.

If we were in court, the lawyer/judge would say your answer is non responsive. Pay attention to the question. It involves signal coverage not whether anyone has an HD radio. I don't. However, in time, I will own one.

HD signals will have coverage about equal of the analog signal.

Thats cool, isnt there a way I can run a test to see if I can get it over my antenna?, wont I hear a diffrent noise in 104.3 like I use to from KRBE? I know the Austin stations sound diffrent when I go up one or down one I can hear the digital noise in it, like on 96.7 I hear it more on 96.5 than on 96.9.

Ditto!

HD Radio receivers, like VCRs did 20+ years ago, will eventually go down in price (hopefully), and I'll get myself one for $199.99 (hopefully 10x)

Any thoughts about this radio?

That's unfortunate. Satellite radio has easy to use non-intrusive adapters. Without an HD adpater, I guess HD radio is a non-issue for me then.

.....hopefully its performance characteristics (sensitivity, selectivity, etc.)will justify the cost of the equipment.....still curious as to whether or not one may utilize the receiver with an existing analog radio with full capabilities as with Sirius or XM........that would be a plus!

The Radiosophy is a table radio, so you can't use it with an existing analog radio (it has its own analog radio built in; if the digital fails it falls back to analog).

The first HD radios remind me of the first satellite radios. Over time the size and price will go down and they'll run cool enough (and draw less power) so they can become portable.

There will be a cost to being an early adopter of HD, just like it was for satellite, or PC's, or HDTV, or any new technology. But the Radiosophy is certainly the cheapest way to enter HD radio right now that I've seen.
______________

HD radio prices should drop like a rock, as soon as there's a fair amount of publicity about the technology. It's a "chicken vs. the egg" thing. The receiver manufacturers need to know that people will be running out and buying these things....and they will. This is just a guess, on my part, but I'd bet that HD receiver prices will drop about as quickly as those old digital watches did back in the Seventies. I hope the radio business will be smart enough to use the new programming potential to their advantage and not squander it. This is terrestrial radio's chance to shine. Offer some entertainment!!
