CBS RADIO NEWS APP

Very nice. Top of the hour newscasts available within minutes, and many features and commentaries (my favorite is "not just another story" by the great Harley Karns)...with one glaring omission..

The Osgood File.

Now, my work schedule keeps me asleep until late morning, so I have no clue if this fine commentary is still around..but its not on the CBS app or the Sunday Morning app.

All in all, its great to hear familiar CBS voices like Jim Chenevy and Frank Settipani, mixed in with Mutual stalwarts Sam Litzinger and Gary Nunn ( who was with NBC Radio) You even have the World News Roundup, the longest running network newscast on radio or TV.

The CBS flagship AM in Tampa is , for now, all sports with a pathetic signal..a brokered CC affilliate airs some other CBS Radio programming.

Great to hear on my Ipod..

That's because the Osgood File isn't a CBS Radio News product. It's a product of the CBS Radio Network, I mean Westwood One, no-no-no wait, It's from Dial Global (but using the CBS Radio Network brand for some of the features like Osgood).

The point being that the content is managed under different auspices.

The CBS Radio News primary affiliate in Tampa is Clear Channel's WHNZ. There is (or was) an agreement that Clear Channel would be able to use some CBS Radio News material on WFLA. None of the CBS Radio owned-and-operated stations in Tampa have a contract with Dial Global for CBS Radio News.

Confusing. I know.

Its like Washington DC WTOP the Hubbard Owned all-news station is permitted to use the CBS Radio News content from Dial Global but CBS O&O WNEW-FM in Maryland/Washington DC cannot use CBS content with exception of using CBS-TV affiliate WUSA-TV for some segments. WNEW-FM in the Maryland/ Washington DC area has to set their newscasts to the WINS, KYW and WBZ model for all-news.

Well, close... but WUSA-TV is not owned by CBS Television. It's owned by Gannett. So, CBS Radio must have a deal with Gannett for WNEW to use WUSA's material. So technically, WUSA content is NOT "CBS Content."

(However, CBS Radio News *is* allowed to take material from WUSA-TV and turn it to their affiliates, including WTOP. CBSRN can do that with any material from a CBS News TV affiliate.)

So its like WYAY-FM in Atlanta its a Cumulus O&O who is permitted to use ABC radio material but must have an agreement with Fox O&O WAGA Fox 5 to borrow content from them. Or Cumulus O&O KGO-AM they must get an agreement from Disney O&O KGO-TV ABC7 to borrow content to go on the KGO-AM News.
