There's no reason why Mega would flip to Top 40.

When KISS FM has more revenue than Mega, the FAN, and KRLD AM combined....I beg to differ. Theres about 25 million reasons Mega would switch to top 40

Ummm...What's the revenue being generated by Mega?

Not quite the logic used in cluster strategy. While optimizing individual station revenue is some of it, optimizing cluster revenue is the key. That means offering a multi-station combo that can be sold in a way that guarantees buys and a good price.

Mega has a somewhat deficient signal... far less power than the "Big" class C's, so competing in the Hispanic area may make a lot of sense, since the market is 30% Hispanic and having a Spanish language station may be of great cluster strategy value.

An AM is an AM, and whether KRLD will succeed in its current, or any, format is debatable. AM is really in shrinkage mode, but in any case in 2010, the last full year for which we have "published" numbers not bound by an NDA, KRLD and KHKS tied in billing. The Fan was 12th in only its second full year in the format.

The Fan, KRLD and Mega billed double what Kiss billed in 2010.

Going after KHKS would only fragment that format area, and there would be less revenue for each station in all liklihood.

As one who listens for part of each day, I hope that KRLD 1080 is around for a long time. It would be nice if it were simulcast on FM. 105.3 & 107.5 come to mind as possibilities. But I have no idea how likely that is to actually happen.

Three more solid career broadcast veterans cut by CBS Radio: Dan Bell, Affiliate Relations for TSN and PA for SMU games; Doug Helton, TSN anchor and supervisor (goes back to K-BOX days) and Peter Arnel, TSN anchor and former entertainment reporter for KRLD. I think we're seeing the last generation of local career broadcasters. It's going to be part-time hobby before long. Management told the firees one story and told the remaining skeleton crew a different story, of course.

The old KVIL "It's a shame what's happened to radio" jingle should've been pressed on vinyl. It's often appropriate nowadays.

Wonder if any of them will turn up at BAP ? One of the things I enjoy about listening to 820 is hearing all the familiar voices from KRLD.

What makes you think they will? We already have 2 Top 40 stations now (KHKS-KISSFM & i93).
