CBS Radio Philadelphia news

I visited KYW/WIP facility only last summer and was impressed with the facility. I also saw their old studio at 5th and Market sts. many years ago. I just wonder if KYW will get the short end of the stick when they move. The old 5th and Market studio was not as impressive.

With several studios for KYW most likely WPHT and WOGL will move into KYW's vacated studios since WIP is on a different floor. WOGL will probably get the nicest digs.

I wonder how they will pull off the move seamlessly?

In most radio studio moves, all pre-wiring, cabinetry, and everything else that can be moved except the bare minimal equipment needed to stay on the air is moved in advance. Sometimes a complete new studio is constructed at the new site, including all new broadcast equipment which makes the move even easier as far as keeping any broadcast interruptions to a minimal. If existing broadcast equipment will be used at the new site, that is moved during the overnight hours, and if executed correctly, can be completed before the 6:00 AM morning drive time broadcast if completed on a weekday. Oftentimes these moves are planned for the weekend overnight hours in case any down time is needed. Other times, if no actual down time is necessary, a pre-programed computer is used at the transmitter site during the move, playing music (if a music station) or airing pre-recorded talk programing (if a talk or news-talk station).
