CBS to Cease Broadcasting Imus in the Morning

CBS today announced its decision to cease broadcasting the Imus in the
Morning radio program, effective immediately, on a permanent basis

NEW YORK, April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- "From the outset, I believe all of
us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on
our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the
NCAA Women's Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent,"
said CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves, in
announcing the decision. "Those who have spoken with us the last few days
represent people of goodwill from all segments of our society -- all races,
economic groups, men and women alike. In our meetings with concerned
groups, there has been much discussion of the effect language like this has
on our young people, particularly young women of color trying to make their
way in this society. That consideration has weighed most heavily on our
minds as we made our decision, as have the many emails, phone calls and
personal discussions we have had with our colleagues across the CBS
Corporation and our many other constituencies."
Imus in the Morning was carried on 61 stations across the United States
and distributed over the Westwood One radio network. The cancellation of
the program comes after statements Mr. Imus made about the young women who
comprised the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team, which reached the
finals of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship this spring.
Moonves concluded: "I want to thank all those who came to see us to
express their views. We are now presented with a significant opportunity to
expand on our record on issues of diversity, race and gender. We intend to
seize that opportunity as we move forward together."

I guess the poor guy is doomed now, what company would pick him up just to have freeloader sharpton and no job jesse to play the race card and boycott and make a fuss over someone else hiring him....only in america.....If I was in charge of a cluster, I would hire him on the spot, just let them trolls say anything. The last time I checked I thought america was the land of free speech, or is it free speech for the almighty few and censored for us devils.

Well I guess the next part of this parade is for CBS radio to bring the Al Sharpton Show (I didn't know he had a show until Imus appeared earlier in the week) to CBS in Imus' former time slot. It would be interesting to see if his show would get the same amount of stations carrying the show as carried Imus and what sort of ratings he'd get. Also, with the Reverand being on "mainstream" radio then his comments would be put under a microscope and my guess is, it wouldn't be too long before Rev. Al would find that he's offended someone and in the same sort of hot water as Imus found himself.

That is the question, what will CBS radio replace Imus with. Obviously, Sharpton and Jackson want a black talk show host. There's a black conservative talk show host who's filled in for Rush a few times, he'd be an interesting choice as a replacement for Imus. That choice would make for interesting irony, that Sharpton managed to get the liberal white Imus off the air and get him replaced with the conservative black host.

The other part of this scenario would be for either XM or Cearious (sp) satellite radio to pick up Imus like they did with Stern.

The other part of all this would be for a letter writing campaign to the FCC by people complaining about the abusive language that is heard on rap music on those "over the air" radio stations where women are put down on a daily basis, etc. Frankly I'm surprised that N.O.W. (National Organization for Women) hasn't already filed complaints on this issue. After all, what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

So I guess now that this story is over, Sharpton and Jackson will be calling a new press conference to apologize to the three white Duke lax players they bashed, before they had their due process, for allegedly raping a black escort/stripper???

Doubt it!

Excellent point but will never happen. The double standard that exists in this world of ours never ceases to amaze me.

Wonder who's next?

Imus was cleared in Philly on 10 kW daytimer WWDB 860. In winter, half his show would go by before the station could sign on.

With FAN's flamethrower, you could still hear it all over town - just couldn't get marketing out there.

The temporary replacement for Imus is Mike Barnacle. His claim to fame is being fired from The Boston Globe for plagerism.

He was suspended for plagarism (Carlin) - he was asked to resign because they found one article with material that couldn't be fact-checked.

And Barnicle was an Imus crony.
