They make boatloads of money in Pittsburgh, Charlotte and Hartford. Something tells me that there will be some dealing and wheeling in the process.
Example, is trade out some stations in Denver, Vegas and San Diego to LincFin in exchange for some cash and WSTR Atlanta
Another sale could happen in Minneapolis to Northern Lights
Bonneville could possibly want to jump ship in Phoenix in exchange for the cash cow AM/FM combo in Saint Louis.

That list begs the question...remember when Cleveland was top 25? hmmm...

Partly due to peeps fleeing the chilly Cleveland climate (happening in a lot of northern cities) add lack of jobs, and also gotta factor in that other markets are growing. Cleveland isn't shrinking as much as others are growing. So you take it with a grain of salt.
Columbus used to be #35...no longer

When I was in Raleigh the Charlotte market was in the high 30s. I believe Charlotte picked up another county...Used to be Charlotte-Gastonia. Now it's Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill.
I got to Raleigh mid 2000. It was market #48. When I left five years later it was #43 (where it is now). CC was looking at buying another county for Arbitron but then decided it wouldn't have a big enough effect on sales. If the county was purchased Raleigh-Durham would have jumped to #40.
The Greater Cleveland metro is seven counties. Cleveland proper is under 500k population. Roll in the other counties and it's almost 1.8 mil

WHFS in Baltimore is the co-flagship for the Ravens (with WJFK-AM), the uh-Orioles and U-of-Maryland Terripans (Johnny Holliday still does the PBP, IIRC). Plus has a hot talk format. I'd bet a dollar-to-a-donut that CBS Radio might transfer the WHFS calls back over to one of their Washington stations...
Yes, KDKA-AM in Pittsburgh is faded from it's past glory, but still is the definiton of "heritage..." and all the other distinctions bestowed upon them.
I'd bet, too, that CBS may park the WNEW calls to another locale, as that was done to keep another station in New York from using them.
i think it's fair to say anything below market 15 is in play........
and i believe the spec. that cbs has already been talkiing to potential buyers....
i would further summize that they will sell to a group, or maybe individual buyers, who will be able to close swiftly and cleanly.......ie: no swapping no fincncial issues etc etc........that would leave tribune out.
that process of elimination leads you to, basically, 3 groups ....Bonneville....Entercom...Greater Media....
some markets could be Cox....
don't get me wrong...doesn't mean that a company like Clear Channel might not pick up, say KDKA,and spin off the 970 signal...but remember .....Dan Mason is smart....he wants this thing to go off without any hitches or as few as possible.........

Turns out CBS' Cleveland properties might be safe after all...

"... One savant says "Dan Mason says that in markets where they don't have four or five FMs, they will be sellers." They want a big presence in a market."
CBS just happens to own four stations in Cleveland - all FM's. They may retain this cluster - we'll see...

Cleveland is having major money issues. Could we see Embracias back in the bid?
I think that Entercom would do really well in C-Town by getting QAL & DOK

They did run a tight ship back in the day, and had true success with WZAK.

Correction, the Cleveland Metro is FIVE counties... Cuyahoga, Lorain, Medina, Lake, and Geauga. One of the reasons that Cleveland is losing its ranking is that markets have been adding counties in the past years. Charlotte made the jump by adding something like eight counties to their MSA. By all rights, Summit-North (Hudson, Richfield, Twinsburg, Macedonia, etc.) and Portage-North (Streetsboro, Aurora, etc.) should be in the Cleveland metro but they're in the Akron metro instead. Arbitron has resisted annexing embedded metros, but if enough of the stations in petition Arbitron, the definition can be changed. The last time this happened was when Lorain Co. was added to the Cleveland metro back in the 80's. By all rights, those pieces of Summit and Portage should be in the Cleveland Market.... and an Akron-Canton market consisting of Summit-South, Portage-South, Stark, Wayne, and Carroll Counties should be created.

However...if neither of those happen, I would be very happy if they just added Tusky to Canton Metro.
