CBS Radio Wants to Expand in Atlanta

From Joel Hollander: "On CBS Radio’s current portfolio of stations… We think it’s pretty optimal now. We don’t foresee more divestitures right now. We’d be very interested in getting bigger in San Diego, Atlanta and Houston, and we don’t operate radio stations in Miami, so we could be interested in furthering our footprint in the top 20 markets"

O&A coming to Atlanta, Rob Barnett (former CBS Radio - President) was interested in doing it. I wonder who would they buy?

As much as I like their show, I don't see them succeeding in Atlanta simply because a syndicated morning show has never taken off here on any non-urban stations. MJ, Bob and Tom, and I'm ready to start a cancellation pool on Big D and Bubba. Howard Stern was never even ON here. That being said, I won't mind them attempting to expand here at all. Or in my old home of Miami.

Where's this from anyway?

Interesting that Lincoln Financial Media has thriving stations in three of the markets mentioned...San Diego, Atlanta and Miami.

Could it be that "Uncle Jeff's" successors are thinking of getting out of some of their radio holdings?

I've questioned how long it would be before Lincoln sold-off their non core (not insurance related) radio division.

They don't seem to be succeeding anywhere. Not to CBS: fix the big mess you have before you add to it again.

They're doing pretty well in Chicago.

According to Robert Feder of the Chicago Sun-Times, The only morning show doing worse is WCKG's latest replacement for Howard Stern -- the syndicated duo of Gregg "Opie" Hughes and Anthony Cumia. They're faring no better than Shane "Rover" French, who lasted only seven months here.

The ongoing calamity at WCKG is costing CBS Radio millions in advertising revenue, prompting the inevitable talk of adjustments to the station's lineup -- if not a total overhaul of its format.

O&A will not be coming to Atlanta anytime soon. If CBS buys a station here, it will be to flank V103.

They weren't even on for a full book. It takes time to grow a show. I believe by the Spring Book they will move up a lot.

I was referring to WBBM, WBBM-FM, and WUSN, which are all top 10 stations owned by CBS in Chicago. They're also doing well in Philadelphia, and pretty well in Los Angeles considering the large selection of radio there.

Sorry for the error. The three stations you mention (WBBM-AM, B-96 and US99) have been in the top 10 in Chicago for decades. No amount of medling will change that.

if so, what does that mean for 790, Star, or

wait for it

Q?

Seriously, though, if they were going to dump one of thier Atlanta holdings, who goes? 790 or Star?

If they want to expand in Atlanta and they are talking to Lincoln how could they not want at the very least Star and I amsure the Zonwe would get thrown into the deal. They are not defining expansion as by some weak am signal to go along with their other weak am signal.
