CBS RENEWS BIG BANG THEORY FOR 3 MORE YEARS

I'm not sure I would have stuck my neck out for so long...............a lot can happen in
3 years. Renewing "Lost" for 3 years sure would have been a big mistake.
 
All things considered BBT has to be pretty cheap to produce. I don't think it's much of a gamble.
 
I doubt that. As big as that show is, and what it has evolved into. Those guys and gals
are bringing home some big $$$$$.

Although they got a major raise recently they are still not in the upper echelon of TV stars. The best information I can glean from the Net indicates the three major stars of BBT currently earn $200,000/episode with $50,000/episode bumps in each of the next three years. I could not find information on the two minor stars but prior to the recent salary increase they were making in the neighborhood of $40,000/episode. By Hollywood standards that is pretty low.

Compare BBT to 2 1/2 Men and the salary costs of the two major 2 1/2 Men stars easily trumps the entire cast of BBT. Considering the popularity of BBT I'd say C(BS) is getting quite a bargain.
 
Odds are the show isn't going to suddenly crash inside of three years, so the deal's a good one for CBS. It's still on the upswing popularity wise, so locking in three more years (at least) falls under the heading of a gamble with good upside potential and lesser downside.

Lost was a different situation--as that kind distinct type of drama almost always would be compared to a sitcom. Apples, meet oranges.
 
2 1/2 Men has been around longer and is at the zenith of TV salaries. That is comparing apples
to oranges.

In 3 years, stars can leave, stars can die, popularity can slide, stars can get arrested or go into
rehab. This really boils down to a PR and paper thing. I'm sure there is a clause in there somewhere that CBS can pull the plug after 1 1/2 years or sooner if they want.
 
BBT will never last as long as 2 1/2 have for a variety of reasons. Unless their contracts are renegotiated major BBT stars will top out at $350,000/episode after 3 years. That is a long way short of Sheen's and Cryer's salaries.
 
Well TBBT is also doing well on Thursdays and "Two and A Half Men" is holding on Monday nights in a slot CBS has done well in since "I Love Lucy" was running.

Old patterns die hard.

I still recall the mess ABC had when they renewed "The Drew Carey Show," for a number of years and the show just tanked.

That said, "Two and A Half Men" is driven by Charlie Sheen. Yes, Cryer is funny but he drives it. TBBT is more ensamble like "Friends" was.

It will be harder to keep TBBT around as the characters are playing in their late 20s/ early 30s and that is a time when major changes should be happening.
 
Maybe the "BBT" producers are planning to consult producers* from "The Simpsons" in that regard - they haven't aged in over twenty years! ::)

* - There's plenty to choose from. Just look at the opening credits on any given episode.
 
I love BBT. I just find that the show centers around the Sheldon character too much, to the point where it can sometimes be annoying to watch.
 
Bring back the incredibly hot Sara Gilbert. She should be Leonard's girlfriend.
Lose the airhead, bimbo blonde. Lose Sheldon's non-girlfriend.
And let's see more of Howard's sweet, sexy girlfriend Bernadette.
And yes, too much Sheldon now.

Sheen is important to the show, no question, but Cryer is a much more talented actor in this show. But the strength of the show is the entire cast - with the possible exception of the Chelsea character. Based upon Charlie's character he should not be interested in her and it's a wonder why she would ever be interested in him. Same goes for Rose but we all know she's a bit daffy.

I agree and would also point out that the producers are missing an opportunity to expand the minor characters' roles. Too much Sheldon.
