Maybe its a 3 way deal? Cumulus buys the LFM Cluster and spins off 790 and 106.7 to CBS for cash which would fund a good portion of the Star 94 piece. Cumulus is not going to operate two am sports radio stations with full staffs and it is really senseless to kill it off as I believe that the Zone is still profitable.
What's in it for CBS is two additional properties to sell advertising on both going after a key male demo. They are the leader in All-News formats and I am sure they would love to get 106.7 under their umbrella.
The Zone comes with established talent and sports properties that they need to be a player in Sports talk and nothing is hotter right now and the foreseeable future than the Falcons. Not sure how long they hold the GT rights but for now that comes along with the deal also.
Install Mayhem as the morning team. Move CJ over as the third mic on Ryan Cameron's show. Shuffle some talent around for 2 mid-day afternoon shows and run Archer and Bell from 3 - 7 which makes more sense when not dealing with a signal that is full power 24/7.
Move CBS Syndicated programming to 790 the Zone. Eventually they will want clearance in this market and they seem committed to not put it on 92.9.
Clear Channel wins also as the ESPN syndicated program makes a nice fit on WGST.
