CBS should pick up Arrested Development

I haven't heard much about Fox's recently cancelled sitcom "Arrested Development." However, if CBS picks this up (and it should), this would be a great fit for Monday Nights in Fall 2006. The lineup could go like this:
8:00 King of Queens (will this be around this fall?)
8:30 How I Met Your Mother
9:00 Two and a half Men
9:30 Arrested Development (give Out of Practice and Courting Alex a new night)
10:00 CSI Miami?
or

8:00 How I Met Your Mother
8:30 Arrested Development
9:00 Two and a half Men
9:30 Out of Practice/Courting Alex
10:00 CSI Miami?

(or perhaps switch 9:30 with 8:30 on above schedule)

I believe this would be a perfect fit for CBS' monday night lineup.

The King of Queens is pretty much all but over so I prefer the 2nd slate

of schedules.

It's funny that you put Out of Practice/Courting Alex like that

because neither one of them will stay on that timeslot come

this march.

Both shows are slated to move to Wednesdays so they can have room

for that new Julia Louis Dreyfuss sitcom

Why does everyone think that another OTA network will pick up Arrested Developement? The show, while a hit with the critics, does not bring in viewers. Why would another network put a show with terrible ratings in their line up? Cable would make more sense.

Maybe the right timeslot might make "Arrested Development" a big hit on an over-the-air TV network.

And since the 1950's, CBS has had a long tradition of successful sitcoms on Monday nights (going all the way back to "I Love Lucy"). In fact, I actually believe that were CBS to pick-up "Arrested Development" for the 2006/2007 season and schedule it on Monday nights (especially at 8:30, 9, or 9:30 P.M. ET/PT), it would finally become a hit in the Nielsen ratings.

Why? Just because you like it?
To make money you have to have RATINGS, and last time I check, Arrested didn't have any. So why would anybody want it?

If it didn't do well on Fox, it won't do well on CBS. I try to avoid the show like a plague. If it was on CBS, I'd avoid watching it on CBS.

As we learned with their cancelling Star Trek, shows aren't picked up for noble reason. That's like Ford deciding to sell the 1964 Mustang all over again.

Better fitted to the above analogy, it'd be more like Chevrolet dealers selling cars manufactured by Ford - ON THE SAME LOT.

Beyond that, I agree. AD will fare no better on CBS than it did on FOX. If CBS thought it would, they would be promoting it by now as a mid-season replacement.

And that's ASSDUMING the cable nets will even BOTHER with airing it.

Folks, REALITY dictates that if a show doesn't cut the mustard on the OTA networks, then its chances of survival are EVEN LESS because of all the STIFF competition.

As it stands now, you'll be LUCKY if you can even find AD on WGN SUPERSTATION (let alone anywhere else on cable).

The BEST place it'll wind up (I think) will be in syndie land where local stations can at least air in the wee hours of the morning when the few hopelessly die-hard dedicated souls amongst us can TiVo it.

The second best place will be DVD-land for the same reasons.

As much as I hate to admit it, them's just the facts folks. :|

Right, and I believe the only reason Arrested failed on Fox this season was because they put it up AGAINST CBS' Monday Night Lineup (they should have kept it on Sunday nights)...if CBS does this, the network will put Fox to shame.

This is a start!

What (almost) everyone has seemed to miss was just because it failed on FOX does not mean it'll fail elsewhere. Look at when FOX scheduled it and what it was up against. This isn't brain surgery people. It's programming.

A good example of FOX not giving a show justice: "Family Guy". Look at how they screwed with that show over and over and over and wound up cancelling it. THEN it became a huge hit when it went on DVD and airings on TBS and Cartoon Network. FOX is infamous for doing this.

Also, the show not doing well says MORE about the television viewing audience than anything. They simply "don't get" this kind of comedy. "AD" is along the lines of "Scrubs." Great, sharp writing. "AD" needs to be paired up with shows like the above schedule.

The writers and actors on "Scrubs" realize they don't get knock-out ratings, so now they are simply doing shows to cater to their die-hard fans. They're now done trying to "lure" people to the show. They're hoping the sales of their DVD's will do that.

"AD" wasn't the first show that was critically-acclaimed, had good writing and didn't attract viewers. And it won't be the last.

Well, VH1 did pick up "The Surreal Life" after WB gave up on it, and it's still going strong. It's one of VH1's top-rated programs. A program that isn't good enough for broadcast (from a ratings standpoint) may be more than adequate for cable.
