"CBS Sports 107.9 The Fan?"

Wouldn't Gumpdusky have something to say about the last part of that?

What a waste of a great music signal!!!!

The question, assuming this does happen (and we all know what happens when we "ass u me"), is "What would they broadcast that would draw an audience?"

If they're going to be just a CBS Sports Radio satellator, they're dead from Day One. If they go local, it would be 100% talk shows unless they could wrestle the Coyotes away from XTRA 910. TMISU have everybody else locked up.

And who would be their sports-talk hosts? Would Gambo get tired of his de facto demotion at KTAR Arizona Sports 620 and talk Mark Asher into pairing up again? Yet another 3-6 month stint in Phoenix for Arnie Spanier? I hear he's available again. Would Bob Kemp get tired of Gumpdusky and 1060's three listeners, and move over there? It could give The Suck-Up Pollyana Positive Side of Sports yet another temporary home.

I'm not holding my breath for sports on 107.9. There's no reason for it to exist.

I think the better question is, why would CBS give up a 3 share for a 1 share?

Sports, if done right, bills far better than the ratings would indicate. But they'd have to have content (read: games), and right now TMISU has all local teams, except the Coyotes (XTRA) and ASU baseball & women's hoops (KDUS), locked up.

Country should ALWAYS be kept at the top of the dial in Phoenix. It's been that for eons now, and why the heck do they even want to do it? KMLE has a 4.0 AQH rating as of June, and they are in the Top 10.

I can't confirm the switch nor do I really care, and frankly Scarlett, I don't give a damn. But the AdMan knows what he's talking about, which is why I tend to believe him.

And getting the Coyotes would bring in sooooo much revenue. But I guess having some PBP is better than nothing.

Just a thought here, but CBS also owns two other stations on the 107.9 frequency: Y108 in Pittsburgh, also country, where they already have "93.7 The Fan" - perhaps indicating a frequency flip - and the recently acquired from Harold "It's The End Of The World And I Know It" Camping WFSI (now "El Zol" WLZL) - again, D.C. is another market where a "Fan" station already exists on 106.7, whose signal isn't the greatest... so it could be part of a simulcast with 106.7, or solely to clear the new CBS Sports Radio 24/7 network launching next year.

Things that make you go hmmm...

That DC-area CBS station on 107.9 is licensed to Annapolis and looks (at least per RadioLocator) like it would cover both Washington and Baltimore fairly well. Makes more sense than Phoenix or Pittsburgh.

CBS doesn't usually get beaten to the punch when it comes to sports. They got beat in SF where it was rumored KITS 105.3 FM would flip, since the station had acquired Raiders games. Entercom put sports on 95.7 first. KITS stayed with its rock format.

Sandusky has had The Fan moniker in Phoenix for years. Most CBS sports stations use The Fan moniker, but there are exceptions. Chicago has 670 The Score, Boston has 98.5 The Sports Hub and Philadelphia is called Sportsradio 94 WIP. Ironically, WIP's competitor is 97.5 The Fanatic. :)
