If so the interesting thing will be that either a) they will have to change focus and deal with other teams more and not just the teams around here, and that may tick off local listeners, or b) they will do what they do now and national listeners will be ticked off that they focus on Boston. Or can they do a bit of both and get away with it?
Howie Carr (yes TS Howie Carr) is pretty much confined to New England syndication but for awhile had affiliates in WI, UT, WA, FL, MD, etc. After awhile they peeled away. Either they couldn't take what Entercom was charging for it or listeners may have asked themselves, why should we care about Menino and Patrick?
There have been cases of shows though where someone did a "local hour" (for Howie supposedly 6-7 pm,
even though he may still be on up in Bangor or something) and then there was the rest of the show. Gene
Burns did it for awhile. Even Rush at the very beginning, I think, had an hour for NYC only then the rest of
the country. But who knows.
If they confined it to 1-2 hours and did national stuff, then spent some time strictly local... But maybe people
my still like it in far-flung parts of the country even if "those guys talk about Boston way too much". As for specific shows, I don't know.
