CBS sports network

With the upcoming launch of cbssn I have a question. Does anyone think any of the sports hubs shows could go national??? I'm not sure of their schedule but I think Felger and Mazz could be the ones to do any thoughts??

If so the interesting thing will be that either a) they will have to change focus and deal with other teams more and not just the teams around here, and that may tick off local listeners, or b) they will do what they do now and national listeners will be ticked off that they focus on Boston. Or can they do a bit of both and get away with it?

Howie Carr (yes TS Howie Carr) is pretty much confined to New England syndication but for awhile had affiliates in WI, UT, WA, FL, MD, etc. After awhile they peeled away. Either they couldn't take what Entercom was charging for it or listeners may have asked themselves, why should we care about Menino and Patrick?
There have been cases of shows though where someone did a "local hour" (for Howie supposedly 6-7 pm,
even though he may still be on up in Bangor or something) and then there was the rest of the show. Gene
Burns did it for awhile. Even Rush at the very beginning, I think, had an hour for NYC only then the rest of
the country. But who knows.

If they confined it to 1-2 hours and did national stuff, then spent some time strictly local... But maybe people
my still like it in far-flung parts of the country even if "those guys talk about Boston way too much". As for specific shows, I don't know.

National? Have you lost your mind? I lived in Boston for 6 years and no show in that market could ever go national. Are you serious? Those guys are not known 15 minutes outside of the Mass/Conn border.

Spoken like a true New Englander: Distance = Time! ;)

Felger and Mazz could do a weekend show for them or something like a 3 hour local show for the Hub and 2hour national show for CBS, which the Hub might even pass on carrying.

I, for one, have never cared for national sports shows. I'm just not interested in the offensive line for Nebraska or the D'Backs' bullpen, or the Columbus Blue Jackets power play, etc. etc. Scores and highlights are one thing, to listen to a discussion of some team from Seattle just doesn't interest me.

It's not so much being a parochial New Englander, it's that there's just too much going on. Even today's blockbuster deal will have a short shelf life outside of Boston or L.A.

If any current local shows among the CBS sports radio stations are going to be carried nationally via CBSSR, it's gonna be Boomer and Carton out of New York, and of course, the Sports Babe from Tampa. All others, I would imagine, would be exclusive to CBSSR (e.g. Doug Gottlieb in afternoon drive).

NY Post article says that WCBS is picking up the Yankees for at least one more year and it mentions "CBS recently began the national CBS Sports Radio Network, and early seems to be throwing a lot of money and energy in its direction."

So Ma and Pa Pinstripe return. Just imagine, Red Sox fans, if Suzyn were to do play by play or color for our team...but fear not, the Yankees will still have her.

There was only one truly good national radio sports show.

Win Elliot, Sports World Roundup at 7:50 or so AM on Columbia, and it's weekend version, Sports Central USA.

There will never be another.
