CBS Sports Radio

Well, CBS Sports Radio's weekday schedule is almost complete.

Confirmed is:

John Feinstein 9-12p
Jim Rome 12-3p
Doug Gottlieb 3-6p
Scott Ferrall 10p-2a
Damon Amendolara 2-6a

That leaves 6-10a and 6-10p unfilled.

My guess would be that WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" AMD show will fill that slot for CBSSR (it kinda has a "Mike and Mike" motif to it)--not that it'll matter for Cleveland, as "Kiley and Booms" will air here regardless of what CBSSR settles on nationally.

Who knows what they'll do for the evening slot. Again it won't matter here with "Bull and Fox" and Ken Carman airing on WKRK.

CBS has confirmed that 92.3 The Fan will air the 2-6a show ("The D.A. Show").

It's still unknown what they'll do with Jim Rome.

There's 3 options--air him live, on delay, or not at all.

Anybody wanna guess what'll happen?

"The Fabulous Sports Babe," (remember her?) is supposed to be a part of the lineup. I had heard repeatedly she'd be doing overnights.

Not that this will actually happen, but this is the best scenario.

Kiley and Booms 6-9a
Baskin and Phelps 9a-Noon
Jim Rome Noon-3p
Bull and Fox 3p-6 or 7p
Ken Carman 6 or 7p-10
CBS Sports Radio 10p-6a

CBS Sports Radio 10p-6a

Tweak it just a little:

Kiley and Booms 5-9a
Baskin and Phelps 9a-12p
Jim Rome 12-3p
Bull and Fox 3-7p
Ken Carmen 7-11p
CBSSR 11p-5a

I honestly feel WKRK will at least give it a go with Rome in his familiar time slot, just to see how it works. They can always adjust as they go along if it doesn't meet expectations.

B&P, B&F, and Carmen can all use an hour chopped of from their shows, as a quicker pace would help all of them.

Sounds like Pittsburgh could go the same direction in terms of overnight CBSSR fare. KDKA-FM runs commentaries from that network but sticks with local talk. It goes to "best of" from 2 a.m. to 5:40 a.m.

I really think "Kiley & Booms" should be part of the CBS Sports Radio National Line-Up. They have a good show and had a good following when they were national on FSR. I say put them in the 3-6p slot and bump Gottleib to 6-10p....and I also heard the "Sports Babe" was going to fill a role on the line-up as well.

K & B could be part of some regional syndication to small nearby markets, such as Toledo and Youngstown, which have Cumulus owned ESPN Radio stations that are due to flip to CBSSR after the first of the year.

CBS Sports Radio has announced their new morning show.

It will be hosted by former NY Giants running back/Sunday Night Football analyst Tiki Barber, former ESPN host/anchor Dana Jacobson, and Brandon Tierney, former PMD host on KGME San Francisco.

Kind of surprising, as you'd figure WFAN's "Boomer and Carton" show would be the favorite, but oh well.

It doesn't matter here in Cleveland either way, as 92.3 The Fan has Kiley and Booms in AMD, and they look like they're doing OK.

So now CBSSR looks like this:

6-9a - Morning Show (Barber/Jacobson/Teirney)
9a-12p - John Feinstein
12-3p - Jim Rome
3-6p - Doug Gottleib
6-10p - TBA
10p-2a - Scott Ferrall
2-6a - The D.A. Show

As far as Cleveland goes, we're probably getting at least some of Ferrall, all of D.A., and possibly Rome.

Again I have no info one way or the other, and I know CBS sports stations are usually live and local during the day, but this is a unique case and the option of WKRK squeezing Rome in during the day can't be discounted.

Keep Rome on WKNR. The show is terrible. 92.3 should stick with live and local. During Browns season nobody wants to listen to Rome pontificate about what a great interview he had for 1 hour after he did it.

WKNR will probably have no say in the matter.

After the first of the year, Rome leaves Premiere and goes to CBS Sports Radio. I highly doubt CBS is gonna want to have a guy that will be part of their roster being heard on their competition.

Well, CBS Sports Radio's daily schedule is now complete as it's been announced that the 6-10p slot will be hosted by former FSR host and NHL PBP man Chris Moore, and former NFL player Brian Jones.

The show won't be heard here on 92.3 The Fan, because Bull & Fox and Ken Carmen split that slot.

So now here's the full CBSSR M-F schedule:

6-9a - Tiki Barber/Dana Jacobson/Brandon Tierney
9a-12p - John Feinstein
12-3p - Jim Rome
3-6p - Doug Gottleib
6-10p - Chris Moore/Brian Jones
10p-2a - Scott Ferrall
2-6a - The D.A. Show

It's already been announced that D.A. will be on The Fan, and we'll probably get at least some of Ferall.

Jim Rome is a question mark.

The Fan could stick to their live and local template, or they break form and give Rome a slot in a market that has done well for him.

Either option is realistic.

Outside of that, none of the other CBSSR shows will see the light of day in Cleveland.

Rome is not doing very well right now in the Cleveland market...he peaked about 6 years ago and has gone downhill ever since (similar pattern elsewhere like in Houston where he was dropped from his original affiliate...where at one point he was dominating 5 years ago). CBS has opted not to run Rome in Cleveland and will allow WKNR to air it. My guess is KNR moves him to 1540 at some point in the next couple of years and goes local during that slot on 850.

Do you know this for fact, or is it just a guess.

I haven't heard one way or the other how the Fan/Rome scenario is gonna play out.

I still doubt it that CBS would allow what will be the centerpiece of their new network to air on their competition.

Not saying it can't happen...but I just don't see it.

Besides, Craig Karmazin is in bed with ESPN, and CBSSR is going to be the 4 letter network's direct competitor.

The 3 best options are:

1. The Fan airs Rome live
2. The Fan airs Rome on delay
3. Nobody airs Rome

Syndicated shows want to be on in all of the top 50 markets for sales purposes, regardless of how they get it done.

Why would 92.3 dump a show that is local for a syndicated snooze fest like the Jim Rome show? His show was tired and worn out 10 years ago with the same nonsense? Thanks for the vine Jim! Great interview with such and such guest repeated by Rome for the whole show, Rack him! If Rome is so great he would update his show don't you think? 92.3 would be smart to keep Baskin and Phelps in that time slot and let WKNR stay with Rome. Nothing to gain by picking up a syndicated show in a town that wants to talk local sports not hear about how the San Diego Chargers are doing.

Well, The Fan has released their schedule up to January 6.

cleveland.cbslocal.com/schedule

There is no sign of Jim Rome coming over.

Their schedule is still their usual Kiley & Booms/Baskin & Phelps/Bull & Fox/Ken Carmen combo from 6a-midnight, with CBS replacing Fox Sports overnight.

Even with the "schedule subject to change" caveat, I think we may be without Jim Rome for the first time since 1997.

While you can never say never, it would be a MAJOR upset if WKNR kept Rome after the syndicator switch.

Well it's a good thing I never said never...and it is an upset, but it has now been confirmed that Jim Rome will stay with 850/1540 in the exact same set up there's been the last couple of years (1st hour on 1540, the rest on 850)
