CBS Sports Radio

Is there really room for yet another sports format? WFNI and WNDE seem to have it covered, plus WIBC does weekend sports and some college play-by-play & WLHK does Colts games.

Something tells me that it's not so much about whether there is room. It's more about clearances. I suspect national sponsors are going to question why their spot isn't being heard in the home market of the Colts.

Prior to WXLW flipping to a simulcast of 95.9. they were the Yahoo Sports Radio affiliate. so its not like Indy hasnt had 3 sports station at one time

My Odds were on 93.9 going cbs sports because of the releationship between CBS Radio & Cumulus broadcasting in the CBS Sports Radio network

Who does Freedom 95 pick up who used to be on WXNT?

Anyone? WXNT's schedule was so bad, I'm not sure, especially with how Glenn Beck's star has been falling recently.

XNT lasted for 10 years, with it's quality steadily dropping over the past 5 years. Beck's radio show has never been any good. Neil Boortz was much better, but he's quitting as of next month. Dennis Miller is the best show that will be going away. Alan Combs show is live at 10pm and always topical, but wfdm already has Hannity in the afternoon & Savage at 9p. WFDM's mid-day Dave Ramsey show is boring, but it appears to be a good vehicle for sales. Mark Levin is shrill and irritating after a while, even for those who agree with what he's saying. Many of these heavily political people are one trick ponies, saying the same things over and over again.

WXNT was a hosh posh of Right Wing, Left Wing, Right Wing

I mean Beck (Right), Schmerconish (Left), Miller (Right), Boortz (Right) (But was gone after the end of the year anyways to retirement). Colmes (LEft), Hendrie (Left)

Freedom is most likely picking up Ingraham back up when she returns. unless they go totally 360 and bounce her totally off and her TRN Replacement for Beck

Miller is gonna get f'd over unless Freedom airs his show on a Day delay up against rush in place of Dave Ramsey. and i cant see a show airing a day behind on Talk Radio. same delay yes. but not a whole 21 hour delay

and unless another station goes Talk most of the shows are now bounced from Indy. Just like What happened with Yahoo Sports Radio got bounced out along with the 10-7 ESPN National line up when WXLW flipped to a simulcast of 95.9. So unless we see say my 107.9 or I94 do an unseen flip to where one of them picks up the WXNT Line up or even the Yahoo Sports Radio line up. I wonder when Emmis starts Programming the 107.5 FM Translator out of Zionsville if they may just put the national ESPN Line up on from 10-7 on their to give it clearance. because i never understood 50KW AM signals needing an FM Simulcast be it Translator or FUll Power FM.

IM surprise when you look at the FM Dial in Indy. the fact their is only 2 translator and not even any LPFM's that i can see on Radio-Locator.com

is indy one of the few markets that dont have any in city LPFM's in it

from the time of the flip till around 9am listening on the stream at WNXT.com the flip from the old Fox News Radio Updates and the news Talk Line up into the new CBS Sports Radio Sports Talk format. then around 9am somewhere in the automation system kicked in and besides airing the CBS Sports radio stuff. the 9am fox news Radio Update kicked in for the flip into what ever was on at 9am on the old news talk format to kickin to gleen beck from the i cant recall morning show. but it lasted about 5 minutes before it was fixed

It's Indy radio sports overload. WXNT's already weak numbers will probably drop further with this format, but if CBS is paying them, who cares if nobody listens.

Flip this just returns Indy Sports Radio overload back to 3. we had 3 prior to WXLW's flip to the freedom 95 simulcast of WFDM, Indy had ESPN on 1070, Fox on 1260 & Yahoo on 950 till the middle of Summer. so its just due that we lose a News for Sports to return the scales. except we lose Beck, Schmerconish, Miller, Boortz (Who was gone anyways about now) Colmes, Hendrie along with the fact of losing yahoo sports.

It's actually more than 3 at times, as WIBC airs play-by-play basketball as well as weekend sports talk shows. WLHK airs Colts games, pregames, postgames and coaches shows. WFBQ was airing a Colts pre-game show. Not sure if they still do. Anyway it's a lot of sports. The "Free Talk Live" show on WXNT last night made the announcement they were being dropped from the station after 7 years. Listeners from Indy called in saying they'd be complaining to WXNT, not that they expected it to matter.

AIring PBP doesnt make you a sports station BTW. and WIBC has 3 hours of sports talk outside of the PBP stuff. and like i said PBP doesnt make Hank a PBP station

If Airing PBP makes you a sports station then WCBS New York & WBBM Chicago are Sports Stations too then

Show me where airing PBP makes you a sports station because then Q95 is also a sports station because they air a colts pregame show on colts game day. and WFDM airs HS PBP along with WXLW still having the Baseball PBP they have of Reds Games & HS Sports too

No, airing pbp doesn't make those stations "sports stations" overall, but in the hours they are running pbp they become de facto sports stations. Any listener going to WIBC for news/talk, WLHK for country or WFBQ for classic rock won't find it in those hours. They'll find what to them sounds like yet another sports outlet. In those hours the city can and sometimes does have 5 or more de facto sports outlets (for better or worse).

Well then i guess New york with 2 AM sports stations in WFAN & WEPN, and WFAN & ESPN 98,7 on FM for 4. WCBS, WADO (Carrying Yankees Games) for 6, WBBR when the Devils get shifted there for 7, WHRU for the Islanders for 8,

WXNT was the station of minutes of dead air and miscues. Clearly they were treating their station like it's completely automated, and never got it sync-ed properly. What was worse is that nobody at the station bothered to monitor it.

So to go round the clock CBS Sports, it might actually sound coordinated, persuming the legal ID at the top of the hour actually runs.

CBS on WXNT is fine. National hosts, and solid programming. Nothing spectacular. It is a nice second choice for sports fans when one of the shows on WNDE or The Fan becomes unlistenable, which happens. Here's my question. What the hell is WNDE doing with the hybrid of Fox and NBC? I get that some of the shows are FOX (Jay Mohr, JT The Brick) and they want to keep the consistency. But it sounds bad and/or confusing.

My guess to keep the NFL/NCAA Games that Dial Global now produces. they had to air some programming from NBC Sports Radio.

In LA while not on Fox Sports 570. NBC Sports airs at least 1 program late at night on Progressive Talker KTLK 1150. to satisfy something for CC to maintain something from Dial Global for 570

I'm not sure if that's an absolute requirement. Clear Channel also owns KGME (aka "XTRA") 910 in Phoenix. They don't run any NBC Sports programming, and carry all the Dial Global games. All non-local programming is from Fox Sports Radio or Dial Global. And AFAIK, they don't run any NBC Sports programming on their other Phoenix AM's (conservative talk KFYI 550 and adult standards KOY 1230) either.

I Just find it odd that a Progressive talker is airing a sports talk show. (which is totally out of whack). I Know WLW carries a sports talk show. but thats dated back 30 something years so i just view that for wlw as regular.

For KTLK to be a Liberal talker airing a sports show. would be for like WKRC a Conservative talker airing a sports show.
