CBS sues Stern! Thoughts..

> As reported on numerous sites CBS has filed a lawsuit
> against Stern..Was interested to know all of your thoughts
> on this whole issue?

Too early to tell.

"The 43-page complaint alleges "multiple breaches of contract, fraud, unjust enrichment, and misappropriation of CBS Radio's broadcast time" - i.e., using his radio show to tout Sirius. The suit also alleges unfair competition and tortious interference on the part of Sirius."

It will be interesting to read the filing and wade through the particulars. Not being an attorney, don't know how much of it I'd understand.

At this point, any reaction will likely be from the gut. Based on what I've read in the trades, CBS Radio has some serious, I mean SERIOUS problems with three of it's NYC FM stations. WFNY (formerly WXRK), WNEW-FM and Jack look absolutely wretched.

It could be that Joel Hollander wants to divert attention away from the decisions that have been made. Could also be that he has a legitimate beef and there are legitimate grounds for the complaint.

That will be up to the judge(s).

On the other hand, CBS is playing right into Stern's hands. The suit puts him back on the front pages and gives him (and Sirius) more publicity. Doesn't CBS know (from experience) that Stern thrives on this stuff?

Looks like another dumb move by CBS. From the company that gutted WCBS-FM for Jack.

Again, that's a gut reaction. I could be way off base once the CBS lawyers begin assembling their case.

1. If CBS had real issues with Howard yapping about his next gig they could have removed him at anytime. Gee, I wonder why they didn't?

2. Isn't CBS part owner Sirius? Aren't they sueing themselves?

I gotta agree with the other posters. This is a publicity stunt either to promote Howard or to take everybody's thoughts away on CBS's real problems.

Did you see the comment on that in the article? Stern says he asked Les Moonves that question and he replied "because we knew we could sue you later" or something to that effect.

At any rate, who knows what Stern's contract says and how it will be interpreted in a court of law. I have a feeling that a good portion of the suit will be tossed out. Sour grapes.

CBS Radios' WCBS-FM (now JACK) and WNEW-FM are now the lowest rated commercial FM's licensed to New York City. Look it up. The next Titanic, a.k.a. Free-FM, will be the next to follow the other two stations to the basement. Moonves and Hollander need to be removed from their posts. I wouldn't hire either of them to run a hotdog cart at this point.

one word...stupid.

The guy has a right to work wherever he wants. I'm not a big fan of his but even if I was...enough! Radio will go on without him.

And I was just thinking the other day how nice it was not to have Howard Stern’s name mentioned on some TV show, or appear in the paper, and what happens? He’s back!

As for this lawsuit against Stern by CBS, I’m in agreement with others that this is a stupid move by the network.

By filing this lawsuit all CBS is doing is giving Stern what he desires the most; free publicity. Now people, who may never have listened to Stern, will turn in just to hear his take on the lawsuit. You know the gossip-TV shows will bleed this story dry and that if the case does go to court it will be tabloid fodder for months, or even years.

Sumner Redstone needs to get his head out of the sand and clean house at CBS. That company already has screwed up one of the best radio stations in America (WCBS-FM). Now it’s breathing new life into Howard Stern’s publicity machine. Stern has to be laughing is a$$ off over this.

The "hot dog cart" reference really made me laugh. So true. Perhaps we'll bump into them on Franklin and Court streets sometime this summer, or at Main and Court in the periphery of the Rand building. Wonder if Super-GM Jeff will join their venture?

FREE FM

Some woman was drunk while working at KFIR in San Francisco. This station is nowhere to be seen ratings wise.
