CBS Sunday Morning--live on tape?

CBS Sunday Morning did a "theme" show this morning (4-10-11)on animals that was obviously on tape. This show has also repeated segments. What a disappointment that this one-time jewel of the Tiffany Network is being allowed to succumb to mediocrity.

While it was apparent that this morning's show was pre-recorded, I didn't personally notice a lack of quality. Since all the features are canned anyway, I'm not sure that it makes a big difference if Osgood's intros and outros are recorded or not. The only big difference is that they have to have someone else (in today's case, Jeff Glor) do the current news headlines at the top of the show.

What's the advantage to having Osgood pre-tape a show as compared to having Harry Smith (or someone else) come in to host the show Live EDT?

So, the EDT/CDT viewers can see what the MDT/MST/PDT/Alaska DT/Hawaii DT viewers put up with every week! :D

This thread smacks of East Coast elitism!!

Living in the Mountain Time Zone we are used to seeing taped shows. Today's Sunday Morning was very interesting and well done, taped or not. Personally, I have no expectation of anyone being live on camera on a Sunday morning so it makes no difference to me whatsoever.

Why has no one before me referred to Charles Osgood by both first name and last name?

Albeit that he's now 78 years old, Charles Osgood is a real journalist...not just a pretty face. At his age if he wants a week off...what the hell...

If I'm not mistaken the intros to the "60 Minutes" stories
aren't live, either, but are taped on Friday. I seem to recall
Mike Wallace mentioning this in an interview some years back.

Maybe because there was no danger of confusing him with Rufus Osgood. :D

Even in ET/CT, what you see on "Sunday Morning" isn't usually completely live. Osgood does show up on Sunday morning, but he tends (at least on the day I visited) to start recording intros an hour or two before the show hits air, presumably to give him a chance to fix flubs and clean up timings. I believe the final "goodbye" was live, and the news headlines may have been as well.

I didn't see it this week, but pre-taped theme shows for "Sunday Morning" are nothing new. They seem to do a few every year, and they are usually repeated in the summer. I assume this gives the entire staff an extra week during the season to work ahead on future segments and to take time off during the summer.
