CBS Taking The "Free-FM" Out Of 105.9?

So here I am, watching the Bulls game via WGN, when I see courtside advertising for the new Bulls radio affiliate, 105.9 WCKG Free FM.

However, it just reads: "105.9 FM... The New Home Of Bulls Radio... 105.9 FM".

There are also similar placards at both ends of the court that just read "Tune In 105.9 FM" alongside a huge Bulls logo.

Is this one of the signs that a change in name and/or format is on the horizon at 105.9?

i think they should close up shop. its a terrible station. but i bet if they do it will be another lousy format that nobody wants but the advertisers do.

That's a fairly common practice. If you're trying to reach out to a new audience advertising a specific thing, like Bulls, it's easier and simpler for the audience to understand if you just say "Bulls on 105.9FM"

Sports often times has a high cume of listeners who listen to the game and not the rest of the station. So get them to write down in the Arbitron diary they listened to 105.9 and you've got yourself a credit. That's all they need to know...Bulls on 105.9

The answer to the question all depends on the context. Was the advertising put up by the Chicago Bulls or by CBS ? If the answer is the "Da Bulls," (and I'll be it is) than it means nothing, because the Chicago Bulls probably can't use the name "Free FM," because it's trademarked, and the Chicago Bulls are not advetrising the radio station, just where to find the game.

If the answer is CBS, than it would be a different story. The way to find out is to scan the advertisements on busses, subways, etc. You know, things outside of the stadium. Also, listen the station a bit. If the name is still void in those places, than I would think you'd have your answer.

That doesn't make sense. If you're CBS and someone is offering to give you free advertising, you're going to say no? If so the Hollanders are even dumber than anyone thought.

They should have the 2 talking MAGPIES be the mascots for the station. Stan and Blurry.

That station is so far up the creek, even going spanish could not save them.

This is not true either. I just checked the web page and it still says Free FM and looks like evey other Free FM that CBS owns. Sometimes the "Free FM" banner doens't load, unless you it the "home" link. But I think that is just a coincidence. Sorry, there is nothing to see here folks.

Actually, he's referring to the title bar at the top of the web browser, not the banner on the webpage, and he's correct that it no longer says "Free FM" up there. However, other than that, it does look like every other "Free FM" page. I'm not really sure if it's anything or not, though. I suspect most people don't read web pages that closely.
