CBS This Morning -- All Anchors on Vacation

Watching CBS This Morning today... None of the regular anchors is there and the show has THREE anchors. Who on earth scheduled all three of them to be out on the same day. I wonder if this is for the entire week or will one of them show up tomorrow?

Unless it's a National holiday, I expect at least one of the regular anchors to be there.

Setting aside the possibility any of the individuals might have had an illness or other unanticipated absence, you can expect all you want. CBS could reasonably decide the advantage of having all three anchors together in a more important period outweighs a dead August week. They have enough bench strength to cover, and I’m not saying that as an insult about the talent it takes to do the job—which is far, far more than “reading a promoter” as some try to denigrate it.

"A dead August week"?!? I guess it depends on where you live. Our kids went back to school last week so I dispute the "dead" week claim.

But then again, it's really all about New York, isn't it? At least, CBS gives lip service to their "viewers in the West", I suppose.

Viewership wise, on a national basis, yeah, pretty much a dead week.

If I were one of the main anchors, I would be afraid that CBS would find that the "B" team does just as well and is much cheaper (although you wouldn't have Oprah's best friend there...). Anyway, two of the three were back on Tuesday.

Despite using subs, I prefer CBS in the morning to NBC and ABC. I just like their approach. They seem to offer more substance. To me, the substance is more important than the anchors. I tire of the constant entertainment/live music/cooking segments found on the competition. No interest here.

It's possible for many people across professions to find that the bosses like something better about what happens when you’re not there. The upside is if you have a contract that pays you well either way, as the lead anchors would.

Yesterday on "Wait! Wait!" there was a rerun of Al Roker's appearance. One of the panelists asked Al about perky morning hosts. She said she'd rather have someone who was miserable like she was that time of day (and how can they not be if they get up at 3 in the morning?). Al suggested "Fox and Friends".

I don't think "Today" was perky in the days of Frank McGee and Barbara Walters. And news anchor Frank Blair was anything but perky.

It is relevant if you miss those days. And who is to say this approach wouldn't work today? As I said earlier, I like CBS in the morning for that very reason. Substance over style. Don't care about some pop star that I couldn't care less about. Don't want to see someone preparing food. Also don't want to see the show suddenly become serious at 9AM after all the fluff. Good grief. And get off my lawn!

Local stations (Regardless of network affiliation - If ANY AT ALL in the case of the Indies with news) don't "Denigrate" it. Then again, on major holidays (Which can take up an entire weekend), they don't exactly put their "A" team on the air either
