CBS to air colorized I LOVE LUCY Xmas special

Good to show the younger crowd what the old "I Love Lucy" shows were all about. Not just Rudolph and Frosty is needed...

Broadcasting the original versions of "The 'I Love Lucy' Christmas Show" and "Lucy's Italian Movie" would be better for everyone, especially the original version of "The 'I Love Lucy' Christmas Show" since it was seen by fewer people over the years since the day of its original network presentation by the Columbia Broadcasting System, or CBS for short (the World Wide Web site Television Obscurities has an interesting article about "The 'I Love Lucy' Christmas Show" that includes details about the first time CBS presented the colorized version in 1990).

it is a shame that to please the younger viewers they have to colorize the episode.

"I Love Lucy" is still one of the top ten shows among young women. And frankly, if they can breathe new life into some of these old classic shows by colorizing and reformatting them in widescreen, I say have at it.

As we know, several old shows like "Cisco Kid" and "Northwest Passage" were originally shot in color. It would be great if they could find the original negatives, re-scan and clean them up and make them available for viewing on Me-TV or Retro. Retro is currently airing the Cisco Kid but the source material is poor quality, like third generation VHS.

The existing Cisco Kid color shows, I think, are from the Walter Schwimmer prints. I wonder what became of the original Ziv prints.

Someone on the classic board said this colorized episode already existed. It's a flashback show (Sitcomsonline) and the flashbacks are in B&W. I can think of several other episodes I'd rather see colorized than the grapes one though.

Just might be nice to see something around Christmas other than the Grinch, Frosty, Rudolph, etc. cartoons.

The article said that the colorization would be more "50's style." I take it that means a lighter tone than most color shows now. Just guessing, but I'd think that this may be a new copy that has been digitally remastered rather than the earlier colorization methods.
