CBS to go CHR in Boston

According to the Boston forum, CBS is planning to concede the classic hits battle in Boston to 105.7 WROR, and flip its own 103.3 WODS to CHR as 103.3 Amp Radio tomorrow. I'm guessing it will start with the typical 10,000 songs in a row and have the rhythmic slant like most other CBS CHR's. Good competition for Kiss.

This is big news!! CBS is up against a monster in 108/94.5, but they can succeed if done right. Just how ironic that 103.3 was top 40 back in the 80's!

I figured it'd be just a matter of time before Kiss had some competition. With CBS' resources, they can be a real thorn in Kiss' side if done right.

Good - Kiss 108 is one of the laziest CHRs in the country, especially in terms of imaging - and for the past 10-15 years they've been able to get away with it, since Clear Channel owns the only competition

This is good news as I believe the competition will actually improve Kiss 108.

Plus with the flip of 103.3 I will have 5 pre-set CHRs for my car radio!!!!

Kiss 95.3 Portsmouth NH
Kiss 108 Boston
97.9 WJBQ Portland ME
105.5 WJYY Concord NH
103.3 Boston

The station launched, but apparently not 10,000 songs commercial free. Pretty typical playlist for a CBS CHR (except for WNKS), rhythmic leaning.

It would make sense for AMP 103.3 to have a rhythmic lean for at least two reasons: CBS already has an established Hot AC (WBMX) in the Boston market. And CBS is trying take some of the numbers away from CC's Kiss 108 & Jamn 94.5, a more rhythmic leaning listenership

Agreed with Atlantaboy, Kiss is one of the laziest blandest CHR's around, but yet gets 10 shares because of it's heritage and lack of competition. Same with sister station Jam'n 94.5, one of the most boring Rhythmics in the country but yet gets good shares w/no one else on the block. ...Til Now. Here comes Amp 103.3, which is as rhythmic as B96 Chicago or even WKTU. So far, I love the sound and presentation ...Boston has needed this for a long time. Of course all the Oldies fans are bitching about this on the Boston board, but that's just the stubborn Boston people who hate change - and then complain when they say Boston radio is boring in the next breath. Well here's some change for you! I am pretty happy with the new CHR so far. We shall see how Amp does!

The station has its playlist on All Access now. It changed to a CHR at noon time on June 28 and since then it lists "Call Me Maybe" and "Where Have You Been" with 67 spins, and 3 others with 66 spins. So the spin rate of their powers would be about 120 per week (I think).

Does anyone know why a Top 10 market station would have its 7 day playlist in All Access, but it's not listed as a leader for a particular song?

Example: WODS in Boston, during the Jul 13-19 time period, shows 134 spins for "Lights" but it's not listed as a leader for that song. KAMP is listed as the top leader for that time period with 128 spins.

Does it mean that the station uses "prem choice" programming during some or all of its time slots, and therefore doesn't get counted?
