CBS To Sell Off Its Portland Cluster

Ahh well.

"Alpha doesn't plan to make format changes at any of the stations, Wilson said, and will generally leave existing personnel and broadcast lineups in place. One possible exception is KCMD, he said, which lags the others in reach."

Too bad. I'd really like to hear KINK be "brought back" to the how it sounded before Otto moved in and turned it into a jukebox like all the rest. But then again, KINK has pretty much lost all its kink anyways. ;o)

From the Book of Webster:
EXISTING PERSONNEL AND BROADCAST LINEUPS /n pl./ 1. Computers running banal lifeless programming from content dictated by a focus group and usu. devoid of true local content and personality 2. syn. VOICE-TRACKED 3. syn. AUTOMATED RADIO

The funny part is conventional wisdom had included Larry Wilson among the "real broadcasters" who've been sitting on the sidelines, waiting to buy at fire sale prices, and return radio to its former glory.

Like Sam Zell.

Except Wilson has better timing and a exhibits a far greater sense of moderation.

Hmmm..he now owns about a quarter of the radio stations in market 23. As many as Entercom. One less than CC.

My point though isn't how many he buys, but what he does with them.

Come back to me in a year when he owns stations in Northern California and Washington State.

"I leave for New York tomorrow, think about a price." You come back to me, Moe. One year. Peninsula Park, 4 o'clock. Don't be late.
