cbs vs ogl

CBS-F blows OGL away, since its rebirth, music wise, great 50's early 60's, BI, Surf tunes and more, Specialty shows just like Frankie A., Elvis rare cuts, plenty of "oh wow" tunes and just great oldies. Music makes the station IMHO, but why is CBS-F still in a slump ratings wise where OGL continues to explode. With OGL, can it be the same reason MMR was doing great the only game in town, without Standards and another oldies station, there is only one place to go 98.1, it would be nice for another outlet to move to oldies/standards and have a real oldies war, the listener would be the clear cut winner. Or is it just that the Philly audiance is used to the same songs, what can it be, you have to admit, the music on OGL is very bland and predictable. At the Jersey shore you have more oldies choices than in this large metro.

It's a little premature to say CBS-FM is "still in a slump ratings wise," since it hasn't even be tested by a full month of ratings, much less a sweep, much less a trend. We're not gonna know until mid-fall if this thing is starting to even begin to look like it's moving off the dime in the ratings; and even then it will be too soon to make any certain conclusions. Geez.

If anything, CBS-FM has more 80s songs on the playlist and OGL has more 60s. I'll give you this: CBS-FM has great jocks and excellent jingles...better than WOGL's.

As for specialty shows, what in blazes are you talking about?

WOGL has a doo wop show on Sunday nights and a soul-heavy Saturday night dance party. Both are excellent shows. To my knowledge, CBS-FM has neither such show and has no plans to add a doo wop show (as WOGL has). Based on that alone, WOGL has the 50s locked up when compared with their sister station.

If you want to hear an uninspired CBS Radio oldies station, stream WODS (Boston) for a while. Its like an Adult Contemporary station, heavy on James Taylor and Billy Joel. WOGL is like a "real oldies" outlet when compared to that.

i could'nt say, being that its been a while since i have been to the NYC, now, usually this would'nt matter being that i live in Levittown, PA, but i cant get 101.1 out of the NYC like i can with Q104 and K-Rock because of phillys 101.1. but i can probably gaurentee that wogl is the best oldies station in the country.
