CBS World News Roundup

Christopher Glenn retired last month after 50 years in broadcasting, 35 of which spent at CBS. Since 1999 he anchored the Roundup.

Who takes his spot? Will they promote Bill Whitney, who's been doing the evening Roundup? Has CBS made an announcement?<P ID="signature">______________

I've caught two (left coast) Roundups this week,
off of the KNX stream, and Nick Young did both.

I also heard Young doing the 12:00pm ET hourly
yesterday from the WCBS stream.

But I have not seen or heard any announcement on
a replacement for Christopher Glenn's air slots.

On a related--have any airchecks of Glenn's last
Roundups on Feb. 23 surfaced? From what I could
discern, those are the only 'casts he did that day
as I read something (laradio.com maybe?) about his
being given a retirement luncheon afterwards.

Other note, haven't heard Bill in the evenings. Odd.

I was able to record Christopher's final Roundup on cassette, but haven't a clue how to upload it to a computer. I'd be happy to send it to you just as soon as I figure out what the heck to do.

I heard him in the evenings this week.

My bets are on Nick Young...

The question is, who is doing the bottom of the hour "CBS News Updates" during the mornings. When Chris Glenn was there, Nick Young did those newscasts, after the demise of the NBC Radio News newscasts, which he had previously anchored.

If Nick Young is now doing both the top and the bottom of the hour newscasts then I think we have our answer - Its going to be Nick Young and they are simply eliminating an on-air position, one that was only around because they needed something for Nick Young to do after the end of NBC Radio News.

If someone is filling in for Nick Young at the bottom of the hour, then its anybody's guess.

Handicapping the race, though, I would say the top two candidates are Nick Young and Bill Whitney, with Steve Kathan as third. Don't forget Harley Karnes - he could fit into the mix somehow.

Just Kill The Round Up

What is the point of keeping the Round Up going? It is nothing like what it once was. Very little World News (despite the name). Same 40 second wraps as the regularly hourly newscasts, no in depth reporting. They still have to get the real news in the first four minutes because most stations drop out anyway; the rest is just fill. The network loses two avails that hour. It screws up the formats for most stations. It's an anachronism. Let it die. It's another example of how out of touch CBS Radio/Westwood One is with what affiliates want and need.

Here, its main purpose appeared to be to give talk WNIR/100.1 night talk host Tom Erickson some extra time off the air before he started his show. :)

I say "appeared" in past tense, as WNIR flipped to ABC's Information Network a few months back.

Since Kman didn't respond to this I'll jump in because I've been looking for this myself. I'll make it into an MP3 file and post it here for all if you'll send me the cassette. I'll send the cassette back to you after I'm done. Does it contain the whole thing? I'm an aircheck collector/trader and familiar with this stuff and trustworthy. Please e-mail me to set-up arrangements if you want. E-mail address in my profile. Thanks.

I was actually going to respond to similar effect.

Thx.
